I'm in the process of extending my fireplace hearth to accommodate a new pellet stove that I just installed. I've currently built a 2x10 extension and I'm using stone veneer for the front. However I need a stone topping for the top. I'm looking at 126" in length and roughly 30" in width. I've looked at lowes, HD, Ace but all they seem to have is "concrete based" patio stones. I'm looking for some nice natural stone that I can "mortar" to the surface to finish it off.

Something similar to this... https://www.google.com/search?q=fir...UICygC&biw=1280&bih=903#imgrc=y6SFneAGgjctCM:

I'm based in Calvert County around the dunkirk area....

Meadows in Leonardtown is where we get our stone but their garden center is closed for the winter season I believe. Much of theirs (and most everyone else's) comes from the Marriottsville quarries but some is also PA shale. R. L. Earnshaw is another stone distributor but I'm not sure if they do less than full pallet sales.

Try Harwood Landscaping Products in Harwood. It's basically across Rt.2 from the gas station/Subway near Southern High School. They should have what you need.

Edit: Another option might be Patuxent Nursery off Rt.301 in Bowie.

Thanks, I like the first option, I like to get my hands dirty and kinda diy. Seems I can rummage thru their yard and pick out what I need, work our a price and I'm done...

I'm going to try them.

It's been some years since I went there, but they have plenty of selection. May be able to do something more custom if needed also. Based on google reviews, you may want to call before you go to be sure they're open. Good luck.

I really don't need anything too specialized. But if they can cut one continuous stone and the total cost with delivery would outweigh me mortaring 20 individual stones, then I'd rather do that. I think one continuous stone would look better. I want to avoid looking like I attached patio stones to a fireplace hearth.... :D
