Cardin Statement on Tragic Events at Great Mills High School

LEXINGTON PARK, Md. – U.S. Senator Ben Cardin (D-Md.) today released the following statement on the student shooting at Great Mills High School.

"I was heartbroken to learn about the school shooting this morning at Great Mills High School in St. Mary's County, Md. It is a parent's worst nightmare that their child will not return home from school at the end of the day. I travelled to St. Mary's County today to offer my support to local officials. I also met with Governor Hogan, fellow members of our congressional delegation, and federal and state officials on site.

"I thank the first responders who rushed toward danger to neutralize the threat to the students and treat the wounded. I commend the actions of the St. Mary's County Sheriff's School Resource Officer who acted decisively to save the lives of students, teachers and school personnel. And I am grateful for the help of our federal partners from the FBI and ATF who are on site and providing valuable assistance for this crime scene.

"But thoughts and prayers are not enough. Our students need to know they are safe in their schools. They are pleading with adults to act like adults and take action. We cannot wait for the cycle of violence to repeat again and again without making a change. Last week, I joined Maryland students from Montgomery County at the Capitol during the National School Walkout to demand Congress pass commonsense gun safety legislation. This Saturday I will again join Maryland students at the March for Our Lives in Washington. This student activism should move Congress to rise above partisan politics and finally enact gun safety legislation that is broadly supported by the American people."

You would think that we could have a mature conversation about what is ailing this great nation.

First off, we have to ask ourselves why it is that most, if not all, of this domestic violence occurs in the USA and not other so-called first world nations. What makes our culture so violent? I have a few ideas we can start with:

--- Violent, murder-oriented video games being thrust at children from a young age. It would be interesting to see a graph of the increase of violence over time vs. the embedding of violent video games in our society.

WHY IS IT HAPPENING? BIG PROFITS and parents who won't or can't properly supervise their children's lives

--- Violent, murder- and war-oriented entertainment (movies and TV).

WHY IS IT HAPPENING? BIG PROFITS and parents who won't or can't properly supervise their children's lives

--- The "every kid who gets bored in school" needs to be on mind altering drugs culture. We have this antiquated educational system that forces kids to sit in a classroom every day and listen to some teacher, who in all likely hood couldn't pass their own tests w/o the answer key. Not all students learn at the same pace and maybe some students are more suited for a vocational education. Maybe the kids come from a ####ed up home life and act up as a result. Anyway, the answer these days is to label the kid with some made up disease and force mind-altering drugs on them to quiet them down so they won't be a problem any more for the clueless school system. The bottom line is that many of these drugs are known to cause violent episodes and/or suicidal tendencies in many people.

WHY IS IT HAPPENING? BIG PROFITS and an educational system is generally clueless and lethargic to real change. Just throw more money at the problem is always their answer to everything.

--- The never-ending war culture thrust upon us by the so-called Shadow Government. When you subject people to never ending violence, it messes with their heads and desensitizes them.

WHY IS IT HAPPENING? BIG PROFITS for the military industrial complex and a way for the politicians to shore up the economy as the powers that be who bought and paid for them move all of our jobs to slave labor nations in search of more profit. But, that's OK because it is capitalism.

Now why do I think we can never have a serious conversation about some of the things I just outlined? Let's just all be simpletons and outlaw the guns. That'll fix the problem.

...to demand Congress pass commonsense gun safety legislation.

Except now we know that nebulous phrase they always toss out there is actually code for a wholesale ban on guns and ammunition. Go away, Ben..you're drunk.

If watching videos can make you a porn addict why is it so difficult to believe playing shooting death oriented video games can turn you into a shooter?

I have a friend that went to the same college as Cardins son, Not to speak ill of the dead. That boy had some serious sexual issues.

Let me make sure I understand your question; you say watching porn makes one addicted to porn (which is not the case, but it is your statement), so why doesn't playing with video guns make one addicted to killing actual people? Is that your question?

If it is, do you see the fatal flaw in it (and it's not JUST that watching porn does not turn one into a porn addict)?

In my first grade class we had 41 students. Forty one, 5-6 year olds. They kept us in check by using a form of corporal punishment. Get out of hand and you feel the wrath. It worked to keep us in line. As far as I know, nobody was medicated.

The discipline at the elementary school I attended, grades 1-5, was administered with a large fraternity paddle that the Principal called "Irene". On the rare occasions that Irene was deployed, all of the students in the classrooms adjacent would also be lined up in the hallway along with the kids from the class the miscreant was a part of, so that the administration of Irene would be witnessed by many. I recall that approach being remarkably effective. Of course..back in those days...if you received a dose of Irene at school, you were likely facing far worse when you arrived back home again.

Or so I heard.

Define the definition of a porn addict please..

this is from one site, but there are many others to choose from.

Porn addiction occurs when the person viewing pornography, with or without masturbating, loses control over whether or not he/she will engage in that behavior. Porn addicts look at and use porn compulsively, despite consequences that include:

 • An inability to form lasting social and intimate romantic relationships
 • Intense feelings of depression, shame and isolation
 • Disintegration of relationships with family, friends and romantic partners
 • Loss of many hours, sometimes entire days, to porn use
 • Loss of interest in non-porn activities such as work, school, socializing, family and exercise
 • Trouble at work or in school (including reprimands and/or dismissal) related to poor performance, misuse of company/school equipment and/or public use of porn
 • Financial issues
 • Legal issues (usually related to illegal porn use)
 • Porn use combined with drug/alcohol abuse
 • Physical injury caused by compulsive masturbation
 • Sexual dysfunction with real-world partners, including erectile dysfunction, delayed ejaculation and an inability to reach orgasm

Would THIS face lie?
So Benny wants to demand Congress pass commonsense gun safety legislation. Doesn't Md. have strict gun regs? He used it for a photo op. I see Steny came down too. (Election year) I guess Nancy let him out of his cage for a little while

Getting a callous on my wiener stopped me from borrowing my Dads Penthouse and Penthouse Forums Magazines.
Thank god I stopped before I became a addict.

And man does that list explain a lot of folks personality's and problems, I never would have thought so many christian's I have met in my life would be porn addicts.

At Grosvenor Elem all these white kids in the sixtys had a a principle named Mr White that was a educated and refined black man that wore taps on his shoes that you could hear coming two hallways away. He had his college frat paddle that was put into use a few times a week. Mr White didn't play...

I had Mr. Sluder at Margaret Brent M.S. and Mr. Ward at Leonardtown M.S. Neither one was afraid to break the old paddle if a student showed the need. I only got it once from either, and my attitude was quickly adjusted.
