officials on Friday said they'd uncovered an additional 4,289 bodies — mostly in Meulaboh, which had been cut off by washed-out roads

Security concerns for foreign aid workers emerged. The South Korean government asked its aid workers, some of them affiliated with Christian groups, not to engage in religious activities that could provoke Islamic radicals.

Also, in an apparent sign that American relief agencies want to keep a lower profile, several trucks delivering aid for U.S AID removed large banners marking the shipments as American.

They must have upped the count since you posted this, since it says 7,000 now. :frown:
Unfortunately, I think they will never know the true extent since some areas are so remote and there are few if any records of the number of people in many of them.

I've been watching bbc news lately. they've been having bits and pieces of interviews from some of the vacationing europeans that were there. One couple had me bawling. They lost their 2 1/2 yr old little boy; and are staying in the country until they find something of him. Supossedly they ran to the top part of their hotel, put some swimmies on the little boy and held on for dear life; the father got hit with some concrete and lost hold of the little boy and the last thing the father remembers is seeing his little boy floating away yelling "poppa, poppa!!"

Secret Aid from...Nobody

So...just to make sure we don't offend any freaking moslems we remove signs & banners saying that we are bringing millions of dollars of aid to their wretched wasteland--because we don't want to offend.

HECK with that.

I have a new foreign policy: we will give 400% more $$$ that what was given to the Florida Hurricane survivors from foreign countries trying to meet the needs of our devastated communities. Yup- we'll quadrupal their donations back to them. Anybody want a bet we don't have to spend a dime?

"Also, in an apparent sign that American relief agencies want to keep a lower profile, several trucks delivering supplies from U.S. AID removed large banners marking the source of the shipments."

That makes me sick.

I say a shipment of quality Iowa pork is long overdue.
