'$5 million is too little:'

Activists on Wednesday demanded that the state of California pay millions of dollars to each Black resident in reparations as a way to make amends for slavery and subsequent discrimination, dismissing the idea of payments of $5 million per person as "nothing" and "too little."

The demands were made at an in-person meeting of the California Reparations Task Force, which was created by state legislation signed by Gov. Gavin Newsom in 2020. The committee was hearing comments from the public as it considers final recommendations to submit to the California Legislature, which will then decide whether to implement the measures and send them to Newsom's desk to be signed into law.

The task force is considering a proposal to give just under $360,000 per person to approximately 1.8 million Black Californians who had an ancestor enslaved in the U.S., putting the total cost of the program at about $640 billion.

Not a single black person in CA will see a dime of that money, watch and see.
It wouldn’t matter, within a year most of them would again be broke. It’d be the same as most lottery winners, within a few years they’re worse off than they started.

In general I have no problem with government giving money to Americans who need it - or just Americans in general - instead of funneling billions to a foreign country or illegal invaders who cross our borders to sex traffic children and sell deadly drugs. But our politicians are not going to do that.

$5million/per is a ridiculous number, so we can safely assume they're full of sh*t and no average black person is getting paid. What's more likely is that CA - and probably the Fed as well - will confiscate reparation money from tax payers and dole it out to themselves and their cronies. They'll give it to a "foundation" to disburse, and the execs of that "foundation" will suddenly start buying mansions in super exclusive gated communities.

It's amazing to me that dumbshits still fall for these scams.

The complaint that $5 Million dollars is not enough is a blatant statement that no matter what is done for the black community, in their minds , it will never be enough. Never.

If you want to know how this cash grab will go, look at what happened when folks were given money after hurricane Katrina. Any reparation money would be used in the same fashion. Sure it will be their money to spend, but not many people will better themselves for the future. It will be a price is right shopping spree until the bank balance reaches 0.

  • The $2,000 debit cards issued to hurricane evacuees for emergency supplies were often used for purchases unrelated to disaster aid, including: adult entertainment, gambling, a $450 tattoo, a .45-caliber handgun for $1,300 and a diamond engagement ring for $1,100.

"But not one big shot to just open up the checkbook, because they spent it on Gucci bags and massage parlors and everything you can think of in addition to what was necessary," he said later, referring to Hurricane Katrina.

FEMA tried to speed up some of these payments to Katrina's survivors by handing out $2,000 debit cards, meant to cover basics like food and clothes. But, as the GAO dryly noted, "debit cards were used for items or services such as a Caribbean vacation, professional football tickets, and adult entertainment, which do not appear to be necessary to satisfy disaster-related needs as defined by FEMA regulations."

A bottle of Dom Peringnon is only $300 at Hooters? Since when does Hooters itemize the bill like that?

The tattoo parlor was specific enough to say cat tattoo on arm?

Not sure I'm buying this breakdown, but I definitely am not denying those cards were wasted on bullshit. Surprisingly I didn't see a rim store.

I just watched a program on Amazon Prime. Invisible History: Middle Florida's Hidden Roots. 55 minutes. Very interesting. It starts out with how slavery started in the Tallahassee area up to near present. Several of the presenters are black PhD professors at UoF that can trace their roots back to slavery. I recommend it.
