Learning how to write

my 4 year old is just learning how to write his name. Maybe I'm jumping the gun, but is it normal for him to write letters upside down?

I used to "dot the ABCs" for Doug when he was little. You do dots in the shape of the alphabet, then the kid just connects the dots. Doug could do this for hours, literally, when he was maybe 3 or so. Then he dotted the ABCs for his sister when she was about that age.

Another thing we did was learn to add and subtract using dominoes. "Here's three dots on this side, and four dots on the other. What do we get when we add them together? Right - so three plus four equals seven."

And when Vrai couldn't add higher than Doug....

my daughter learned to count sorta the same way.

daddy had a case of beer, there are 3 in the fridge, and 20 empties on the living room floor, daddy still has a half a beer in his hand. How many beers were in the case?

Thanks for the tip. I might try these out with my 4.5 year old.

My 6-year-old is learning cursive and she's doing great. You just have to help her hold the pen and keep her claws trimmed.

I learned cursive when I was two.

Got my mouth washed out with soap too.

Actually my younges wrote upside down and backwards. I freaked out and the doctor/teachers said is was not uncommon. She came around. It just takes some patience and practice. I am proud to say she has grown to be an amazing artist!

I've heard that kids actually see the letters backwards or upsidedown. Have him keep at it as he'll probably write better than some that post on here. :yay:
