Sorry, I was a travel agent for over 10 years. There is NO way he would not KNOW he was going to the US by the time he got the printout.

Having lived over there, I know the younger generation All speak and read english as well as we do, starting in grade school, they take it every year thru graduation. It's not uncommon for the Sr's to take s semester in England to perfect their english. Or take a year of their College in England or the US. So I don't buy the whole thing.

Unless he is older, in his late 40's or older, or somewhat slow, he's just plain stupid and didn't read the printout once he got it. And I'm 25% German. So I have no problem saying that.

What's amusing is he didn't turn around and say 'wait a minute..." after landing in Portland, Maine. Homeboy figured they were taking the long route to Australia. It's not until he's in Billing, Montana about to board a small flight to Sidney - which is described as a drilling town of 5,000.

He spent 3 days in shorts & t-shirt in the Billing airport - current temp in Billings is 26 degrees. No return ticket (or plan), nowhere near enough money to get home - I want to meet his girlfriend, because she's the only way he was getting $$ to get home.

True. But what is funny about the story is his Mom saying "he is usually good w/computers". I can see making a typo, but not to check your airline ticket and then to continue to change planes. And then later say "I did wonder but I didn't want to say anything," "I thought to myself, you can fly to Australia via the United States."

For a 21 year old, he is not too bright w/geography to know where Australia is from Germany compared to the U.S. Guess, he was just too excited to see his girlfriend not to pay closer attention to things.
