8 mm film to DVD...

I'm thinking this would be cheaper than turning the bunch into Wal-Mart for converting... anybody ever try it on their own?

Grr... I spotted that after I started the thread. Guess Wal-mart is my best option.

Back in 2001, I converted a bunch of my dad's old 8mm films to VHS tapes for him by sitting the projector and screen up in the living room, then sitting the camcorder on a table beside the projector and "filming" the movies as they ran. I would pause between reels, then keep going. I made copies for everyone for Christmas that year and they loved them. Dad converted his VHS tape to DVD last year and gave us all copies of the DVDs!

So, I guess if you have the projector, you could do this but just transfer them directly to DVD! :buddies: Worth a shot, and if you end up at WalMart, you wouldn't be out anything!

Never did have a projector. but I do have about a dozen reels of film.

Bummer! You might be able to find an old projector online somewhere? At that point though, it would probably just be easier to hit WalMart or one of the other services out there that do transfer. Good luck!!

Last time I tried my reg 8 and super 8 sound projectors, no sound. Still looking for cleaning fluid.
