State Senate Democrats Stall Resolution to Support Troops

ANNAPOLIS--Maryland Republican Party Chairman John Kane today called on
Democratic state senate committee leaders to stop stalling a vote on a
resolution that supports America’s armed service men and women and
their mission to liberate the people of Iraq.

Senate Joint Resolution 13: “Support of the U.S. Armed Forces and their
Liberation of the Iraqi People” was introduced last week by Senate
Minority Leader J. Lowell Stoltzfus. A public hearing was held on Friday,
March 28. Although numerous other bills were voted on by the Senate
Education, Health, and Environmental Affairs Committee, SJ 13 has been
held back from voting.

“As we speak, brave men and women of our armed forces--many of whom are
Marylanders--are fighting for the freedom of America and the liberation
of an oppressed and tortured Iraqi people. They deserve the full
support of the citizens of Maryland expressed in Senate Joint Resolution
13,” stated Chairman Kane.

“I urge Senator Paula Hollinger to act quickly because time is running
out on the legislative session. Failure to at least take a vote sends
a terrible message to our soldiers. They are protecting us and the
world from a dangerous tyrant. The General Assembly should simply express
its appreciation for their bravery and service to our country,”
concluded Chairman Kane.

Kane also pointed out eleven Democrat members of Maryland’s General
Assembly signed a letter last week calling the war "morally and fiscally
reckless to our own Maryland citizens.”
