$90M awarded to family of girl killed by car

A Prince George's County jury has awarded $90 million to the family of a 13-year-old girl who died after being struck by a car as she tried to cross the street to reach her bus stop.

The family of Ashley Davis sued the Prince George's County Board of Education after she died of her injuries from the Sept. 1, 2009 crash. An attorney for Davis' parents, John Costello, argued that the school system did not provide safe and adequate transportation.

My child's route to her bus stop would not be considered safe but I feel it is my job as a parent to make sure she safely gets on the bus.

People don't teach their kids to look both ways before they cross the street anymore. Seriously, when I go to San Souci I swear every single time someone just blithely strolls their ass right out in front of my car, oblivious. I have the urge to run them over just to help cleanse the gene pool.

:dingding: That was my thought... IF my child had to cross a street to catch a bus because the bus he is supposed to ride never picked him up, you can bet your bottom dollar my ass would be raising all kinds of hell at the school. I feel it is my responsibility as a parent to make sure my children get on a bus and that the school's responsibility falls in line once my child is ON the bus.

My 1st reaction to the article was 90 million??? Seriously...??? I realize her daughter was killed and that is tragic and horrible.... but the tax payers would have to foot that bill to pay the awarded amount. Somewhere along the lines as tax payers and a parent, I feel I have a duty of responsibility that doesn't end when my child is catching his/her bus.

You'd have a field day on every college campus I've been to.

Huge pet peeve of mine and I would tell my children the same thing whenever they saw a dead animal on the road and commented... "guess that kitty didn't look both ways" "guess that doggie didn't look both ways"

Well crap... I didn't realize until this moment that the thread I started at 1 p.m. on this was already posted by you hours earlier.

I posted in the news section but went ahead and deleted my thread but was shocked when I read the article thinking 90 mil was excessive and after reading more about it, cannot make sense of why the jury felt that was a fair amount.
