Enjoy that home cooking. Nice win but the PI non call has an unusual smell to it. I can't wait to hear what the talking heads have to say about that play tomorrow.

They made the right call picking the flag up. If you watch the play all the way through, and from the angle coming from behind Pettigrew, you see that Pettigrew grabbed Hitchins facemask before the contact that would have otherwise been called defensive pass interference. There's no way that can be pass interference on the defense, if it is then the rule is terrible. Mike Pereira dropped the ball trying to explain the play, I have to think he just didn't watch the play all the way through (to see the facemask) before he reached his conclusion.

If anything, the penalty should have gone against Detroit. It wasn't an intentional facemask I don't think, but it can't be the case that the receiver gets to pull the defender in by the facemask (or even just briefly grasp the facemask) and then the defender gets flagged for the contact that follows.

EDIT: Hitchens not Hutchins

Lots of penalties don't get called during a game. It's rare a flag is picked up on such a play. Either way it was an exciting game that came down to the last series. Heck on the fumble if the DL just laid down the game was over. Shades of Leon Lett.

It was PI because the defender didn't try and play the ball. The rules says if the defender tries to inhibit the receiver without trying to play the ball. Plus, the defender grabbed the jersey earlier in the play which should have been holding. I agree on the face mask but, it's rare they make that call. The other two, not playing the ball, has been called for years and the hold, as slight as it was, was a big point of emphasis this season.

The problem begins with the mixed crew and how they handled the call, shocking fans, for and against, with that late of a pick up. Happens but, rarely. The mixed crew thing gives the impression, well, what it is, poor team work simply because they have not been working together. Do mixed crews at the pro bowl. Not the playoffs.

The BEST call would have been offsetting penalties, a face mask on the receiver and a hold and/or PI on the defender. That would have been a MUCH better call and, I think, a crew that worked together would have come to that conclusion and quickly. Even if not a face mask, it's still a push off, penalty on the offense. Offset that with your choice of PI or a hold. Either way, it was a terrible call at a terrible time and had an enormous impact on the game. Detroit was seizing momentum and sapping Dallas's will by making several tough 3rd down conversions in a row. That is CRITICAL in football. This isn't to say Detroit doesn't turn it over on the very next play or that they score and end the game. It is to say that, if at all possible, it should be decided on the field and the NFL has done a great job of that with the use of off setting penalties, play the down over.

A crew that worked together, in my view, would have said 'offsetting' and it would be acceptable by every fans come Monday regardless of who won. We'd be talking about a great finish, however it played out, and not a call. That is worst case; talking about a call.

This game was not well reffed. The hold on Witten earlier on a big play was AWFUL but, I think the Cowboys went on to score anyway. There was a ton of holds, arm bars where the defender was just about to the QB, not called on either team.

I think the real story here is this mixed crew business. That's a pro bowl move. You wouldn't have a playoff game of players thrown together in what would amount to a pro bowl setting; yes, they're great refs/players who had a great season but, you can't expect refs to work as well together in a pressure game anymore than you would expect a team of all pros to work well together in a pressure game.

That is the issue here. Reward the best ref crew just like you reward the best team. Save the pro bowl individual reward thing in Honolulu.

Doesn't matter... Green Bay will send the Girls home.

Will they? GB's defense is nowhere near the same class as Detroit's and Stafford played awful two weeks ago.

Dallas's D is above average, every bit as good as the Packers. Maybe better. That said, GB found a way to run on the Lions so, that bodes well for GB. That said, Murry and company ran fairly well against them, too, the Lions and, had they not fallen behind early, may well have had a solid overall day running.

Rogers is the best in the game right now but, Romo is in the mix for top 5.

Skill wise, I'll take Dallas' O line, receivers and Murry over what Rogers has to work with.

Momentum; Dallas has got to be feeling it, a lot. GB has sat for a week and home field and a bye has proven time and again to not be a sure thing in the NFL. And Rogers leg injury is one scramble away from flaring up again. Of course, everyone on the field is one play away but, Rogers isn't 100%.

I can see either team winning. The game opened at GB -6.5 and I would take that. If I were a gambler.

If Ed Hochuli was the Ref we'd be talking more about the explanation than the call itself.

:yay:

Dallas is undefeated on the road. The only thing I see holding them back is if the weather is bad. They haven't played in any extreme weather this season.

Yeah, but, the thing about the weather, and this always makes me laugh when people talk about it as a factor, is, that BOTH teams have to play in it and it isn't like GB is this big ground and pound team. If anything, they are more of a 'finesse' team than Dallas. I think Dallas' O line is going to prove decisive. Especially if the weather is bad.

I believe it is a factor. Green Bay is used to it. 8 games on the frozen tundra...Dallas plays in a cushy dome in friggin' Texas. But, you are right. Dallas could benefit because they would probably keep it on the ground and Green Bay's run defense isn't all that great.

I was speaking out of desire. Besides, Green Bay is 8-0 at home and Dallas is 8-0 on the road. It all hinges on whether the refs are Dallas refs or honest refs :lmao:
