CHEVERLY, Md. -- The process of closing the Prince George's County Hospital System has begun, News4's Jane Watrel reported.

At a news conference on Tuesday, hospital officials announced that employees are being given notification that the system -- which includes Prince George's County Hospital Center, Laurel Regional Hospital, Bowie Health Campus, Gladys Spellman Specialty Hospital and Nursing Center, and Larkin Chase Nursing and Rehabilitation Center -- will close.

For some reason I don't think that will happen. Although you never know. If PG Hospital Center was to close, every other hospital in the area would be so overtaxed with patients it wouldn't be funny, good luck finding an open bed. Not to mention, thats the trauma center that handles alot of the beltway accidents and some of the ones from So. Md. as well.

The state did say that it was putting them 404 million in the hole as well budget wise... so I guess I can understand why they cannot afford it anymore. So basically what this means is if you come to Maryland, you'll get free health care because of the primarily democratic government that we have in annapolis, however, there won't be a hospital for you to go to. Does this also mean there won't be a needle exchange program anymore for the crackheads up there?

It looks like they couldn't continue covering the costs for the high percentage of uninsured patients coming through their doors.
