Hi all ,
i moved to pomfret last year , my a/c was low on air throw last year as it was not cooling enuff , so i called up the SMO who delivers my heating oil for winter and they sent a guy who charged me around 150 last year and put some freon in my system , now i have the same problem but last year i was not aware of this forum :) so any suggestions about any company who can do it on contractual basis?
like i hv never had heat pump before and i dont know the frequency of getting it serviced and then i dont know which is good company in pomfret area, and not very expensive, i am right off of 227.how much i shud be looking to pay , is it worth having a yearly contract with a company? anyone's experience with this wud be a great help.
waiting for reply.
Regards

A yearly freon leak is not normal

Sak, Do you have any idea how old your cooling system is? Most heating or A/C providers will not put a contract on a system unless it is in good running condition. If you have a freon leak that requires a yearly charge, this is an indication of a larger problem.

The obvious thing would be to have the system recharged and have a dye pack put in so that the source of the freon leak can be located.

It may be a simple repair or may require a major replacement. If your system is more than 15 years old, it may be wiser to consider a replacement. Old parts can be hard, if not downright impossible, to locate.

I had to "bite the bullet" and replace my heat pump about three years ago after playing the yearly freon recharge game for a couple of summers. Not only will you save money on service calls, but the efficiency of the new unit should help save on your electric bill.

Incidentally, even with a service contract, freon replacement is usually not covered with a contract. I believe freon is now running about $30/lb.

Good luck!

Thanks for the replies......

and the help ....
my system is not more than 3 yrs old ,
so from the replies it seems like , i shud make a yearly contract and just call the same ppl to put some freon in for this time.

A contract for yearly cleaning and parts/labor for service calls makes sense on an oil burner but is a waste of money for A/C.

We have used TN Bowes for several years. Used to use SMO but they tracked dirt and soot through the house. When they took oil samples from our tank they would dump it on the lawn and kill it. I complained and they sent the same guy back and he took dirt from our garden (bulbs and all) to cover the contaminated soil.

TN Bowes work is always neat, clean and professional. We have always received nothing but the best service from them. They also offer annual maintenance contracts.

Yep, SMO screwed up my yard & my house too. I am not too impressed with them overall, but they are less expensive IMO than other's for fuel oil. Our oil tank (above ground) was leaking & we wanted to replace it. To make a long story short....it took them 3 months remove the temporary tank... and then they had the balls to charge for the temporary tank removal.....

I wouldn't recommend them for anything other than fuel delivery.

:nomoney: :nomoney: They are not cheaper if they cost you more money to clean up after plus the wear and tear on your nerves to have them messing around your property. Dealing with them is one of the things that convinced me to go with gas. Then they called me with horror stories about how I would either blow up my house or gas ourselves to death by not using fuel oil.

We had Winter's install a new A/C and Furnace & they do fantastic work. They are in Leonardtown. (301) 475-5611

I would not use winters if you paid me to again. We used them for out heating, it went out on easter sunday. They were great came out the next day fixed the prolbem or so we thought.....In June our AC went out we contacted them again but they couldnt come out for over a week, not a prolbem they were busy. We found another guy to do it, he came and we ended up with a 300.00 dollar bill because winters never told us that we had a gas leak and carbon monoxide leake along with a few other prolbems with the air. i have the guys name and number if you want it Pm me.
