Economy Grows Faster Than Thought in 3Q
The new reading on gross domestic product, released Wednesday by the Commerce Department, exceeded the previous estimate of a 3.9 percent growth rate for the July-to-September quarter. It marked the best showing since the opening quarter of this year and was up from a 3.3 percent pace in the second quarter.

Fastest growth found in ‘red states'
If the trend continues at its current pace, states in the Northeast and Midwest that have been population powerhouses since the 19th century will lose their dominance to Sun Belt states by 2010.

I wouldn't put too much credence on numbers like this for one quarter...whenever you look at any economic numbers, you notice that some are better than expected and others are worse than expected and that they are highly sensitive to change. If you don't recall, right before this month, economic advisers were concerned for three straight quarters about consumer confidence.

Economic news had been great for a year.. but I guess its just a passing phase. Industrial production indicators have been positive continously for 18 months. Unemployment has remained for the most part in the 5.3-5.7 range the passed 3 years... a number that is considered great historically. Etc, etc, ....

Consumer confidence is a measure of the publics perception, which can be weighted under a election campaign that tries to falsely portray the state of the economy again and again across the media spectrum. As can be seen, the economy is fine and has been fine. So, now that the campaign is over, of course consumers are feeling better. They aren't hearing how bad it all is continously from John Kerry. They recognize that everything is just fine. Don't you?
