Dear Marylanders,
This week, I announced the end of the COVID-19 state of emergency in Maryland. On Thursday, July 1, all emergency restrictions and mandates will end, and masks or face coverings will not be required in any setting, including schools, camps, and child care facilities.
July 1 will also begin a 45-day grace period, during which certain regulations will continue to be relaxed to help Marylanders transition out of the pandemic. This includes an additional 45 days to renew expired driver’s licenses and an extension on the moratorium on evictions related to COVID-19.
While the end of the COVID-19 state of emergency is an important final step in our recovery, it does not mean that this virus and its highly transmissible variants no longer pose a threat. If you have not gotten vaccinated, you will continue to be at risk. The vaccines are safe, effective, and readily available across the state, so please go get your shot as soon as possible.
We have been through so much over the past 15 months. We have come so far together to reach this hopeful point, and your actions have made this day possible. I am so proud of our state, and I am so grateful to have the honor of serving as your governor. Thank you all for being Maryland Strong.
