No but I do think the button may have a connection to the Knights Templar. The Knights Templar used buttons that were round too. There are examples in museums in England that indicate the Knights used them on their clothing. I am hoping to find more when I detect the cove at the back of the farm.No bobby dazzlers yet huh?
Very nice finds. I bought my son an entry level detector when he was about 8 but he never pursued the hobby. Now I mainly use it when I drop a nut or bolt when working in the driveway.View attachment 185557 View attachment 185558 View attachment 185559
Half dollar is 1942. Button is another first for me. It is a campaign button from 1840 William Henry Harrison.
It can be boring for youngsters. The instant gratification thing is missing. I detected for 3 years before I found my first gold. Learning your machine and researching places increases your odds of getting more and better finds. Here is my best find (value wise). Sapphire with 14 cut diamonds 14k.Very nice finds. There is no need for you to travel to VA Eastern Shore. SOMD has a rich history. If I still lived there I would be knocking on doors. Many farmers will give you permission as long as you ask and respect the property (fill holes, maybe offer a find or two, thank them and let them know when you are on the property. Right now is the perfect time to hit the fields because the crops are out, weather is not too hot and undergrowth is down. Play with this to research old topo maps. https://ngmdb.usgs.gov/topoview/viewer/#4/39.98/-100.06You need any help Im itching to go
I have to imagine that metal detecting is illegal in most western Europe nations. For your consideration ...
While in Germany back in the 80's did some metal detecting. Found many a coin, though mostly French from the 20's, which was weird. And lots of rounds of very old rifle ammo. Happy that I never found anything such as unexploded ordnance. Though I suspect if I did find something of which its pinging area was larger than the signal for something small, I probably wouldn't have dug down to find out what it was. I think I was that smart back then, hard to remember.
