My name is Hobo, and I have a story to tell you……
I was a homeless cat until Betty took me in one day, after hanging around her house for a while. Betty treated me just like her other cats (3), fed and bathed me, and made me part of her family.
Things were going great, until Betty started experiencing health problems, then she had to stay in a hospital for an extended period. Betty’s brother decided that she probably wouldn’t be returning to her house, as she was probably going to need to be in an assisted-living home, so he took all 4 of us cats to a low-kill shelter, hoping to find us a new home.
In the shelter, I was let out periodically, but spent most of my time in a cage. I really missed being around people, especially Betty.
After a few weeks in the shelter, a local reporter for the Annapolis Capital Gazette, came by, took my picture and wrote an article about me to be published in the paper. They do this from time to time to try and find homes for us homeless animals.
Well, numerous people saw this article, including Betty. It disturbed her to find out that her favorite cat was now in a shelter, homeless. She decided to tell her daughter, Carmen, about it.
Carmen has a soft spot for cats too, as she has 2 of her own. It really bothered her to look at my picture in the article, since I am a good cat and deserve a good home.
After a few sleepless nites, Carmen decided to take action. First, she came to the shelter and rescued me. Then she took me home, and cleaned and fed me. The only problem was that Carmen already had 2 female cats and they didn’t take to kindly to a new MALE cat being around. I was kept downstairs in the basement to keep me separate from the other cats. It bothered her to keep me down there, but I was just happy to be out of the shelter!
It became clear to Carmen that I needed a good home, and that her house probably wasn’t a good fit for me.
So Carmen and her friends at work started a “Save Hobo” campaign. They put up flyers with my picture on it, around the workplace. It wasn’t long before people started asking questions about me.
As it turned out, there were a couple of people that wanted to adopt me. Then it became a question of which home would be a good fit. One person wanted me to be an outside cat on his farm. As I was always a house cat, this probably wouldn’t have worked for me. Then a woman named Nancy asked Carmen about me.
She told Carmen that she wanted me, but wasn’t sure if her husband would approve. After giving it some thought, Nancy told Carmen she would take me home.
The big day finally arrived and Carmen loaded me up in her truck and drove me to her work to meet Nancy. I liked her immediately, and she took me to her house to meet the rest of my new family. When she arrived at home, she let me out of my cage while she and her daughters unloaded the truck. I figured I’d check out my new home while they were doing that. I happened to walk into the living room and found a man sleeping in his recliner. I’m always on the hunt for a good place to snuggle up and relax…..what better spot than on this guy’s lap!
Little did I know that this was the hubby that Nancy had to convince to let me stay here. She didn’t have to convince him anymore! He likes me!
Now, I am a happy cat with 2 teenage girls that pamper me, along with Nancy and her husband.
I am forever thankful that my guardian angel, Carmen, rescued me. I want people to know that there are hundreds of animals, just like me, that are in desperate need of a good home. All we need is a guardian angel to take us in.
