Speed limits are about safety alone.

Why do you think they keep increasing speed limits? Some of these roads were paved 30-40 years ago. Others much longer than that. A lot has changed since then. The cars have gotten safer (supposedly) and faster. Tires have evolved more. Now, cars can run at higher speeds in the rain and keep traction better in the snow. Thus, part of why areas that used to have 30-35 mph speed limits are popping up with 40-55+ mph speed limits.

Talk to any cop in Charles County. They'll tell you the speed limits on certain roads (301, Billingsley, Smallwood) are unreasonable.

Speed limits are deemed based on the road type.
2 lane highway
4 lane highway w/median
etc.

I'm not sure they actually meant drive slower the whole way. More like just increase the distance between you and the car you're following.
I understand this part. At the same time, if you're the first car in line and I'm behind you and you're doing 30 mph in a 55 mph zone :cough::waldorf2:: and you're in the left lane not giving me a chance to pass, I'm gonna give you some message to let you know that I have somewhere to be and you're holding me up.

Drivers in St. Mary's County and Charles County (south of La Plata) are pretty good about moving to the right lane and letting faster cars pass by.

It's safer to drive faster on a 4-lane highway than it is on a 2-lane highway. Consider that you're supposed to be in the right lane anyways.

Lose control (for whatever reason) on a 2-lane highway, guess what happens:jet:

Let's say for a second though that he was headed to a hospital to see his dying mother or wife. How would you feel if you were the original poster and your cutting him off, deliberately holding him up and slamming your brakes kept him from seeing their loved ones once more.

I, for one, would feel like shiat.

But the original poster cared only about themselves. And from the way their posts read, they were late for work themselves just because they wanted to play foolish games with someone.
lets say that you moved out of his way instead of slowing him down and he blew through a school zone and killed a couple kids.
how would you feel then?

it works both ways.

Im very sorry to hear that AzzDrivers mother is breathing her last breath, but sadly enough that does not give him the right to take a chance with other peoples lives.

even though, in that cirumstance, I might be the azzdriver if it were my wife or daughter.

:bs:

It varies  I have realized, after now traveling to work from a new location on a daily basis, that it can even vary from road to road. I have passed more cars by using the right lane (they were left lane, I was behind, they wouldn't get over) than I'd pass in a month using that method traveling from my old home to work.

and yet, so many threads are started about the accidents with flyouts.
hmmmm,,, I wonder, could their be some sort of connection here?

Thats my point though  There is a reason the speed limit is what it is on those roads.
Sure, you can fly down Billingsly quite easily and cause little endangerment, but it is what it is

You've mentioned this scenario before, and how you try to set them up to get stopped. You're going to get someone hurt, and it's really not your job to patrol the roads. If you want to do that, you should become a cop. If you're driving along and move to let someone pass, it's not your fault if he hits someone. It's HIS fault.

By you purposely trying to get people to slingshot around you, you're creating an even more dangerous situation. Just relax and drive defensively, not aggressively or passive-aggressively.

Billingsley is a 24-lane road with a 35 mph speed limit (yes, I know it's because of construction, but still).

488 is a 2-lane road and the speed limit there is faster than anywhere in St. Charles.

so he blows through the next intersection and t-bones the car coming through killing somebodies wife and kids.
Depends. Does he have right of way?

It usually takes me 3 seconds to cross any given road. He'd have to be in a nitro funny car for her to not see him coming.

And no, I wouldn't feel guilty if he did. It's not my job to control his driving or enforce the speed limit.

First thing they tell you about driving is to never assume people follow the law and that you can't control how other people drive. That's part of what they call "Defensive Driving."

Besides, I live in Waldorf. I might get my head blown off if I don't pull over for the gangbangers speeding through Western Parkway to go to their next driveby. :sarcasm:

these accidents happen all the time, and I dont really recall too many nitro funny cars being involved on the public roads.

And how many times do the police actually see the car.

The news doesn't report everything in these type of accidents. If he has right-of-way (this is Route 4, I'd assume he does), it's HER fault for driving out in the intersection.

And I'd feel no guilt because I didn't go out of my way to control another driver. That's what we have police officers for.

But, in this instance, I say the original poster was in the wrong. Again, to recap, he/she: cut him off, slowed down (instead of maintaining the pace of which traffic had been flowing), and capped it off by hitting their brakes (which shows intent that they were trying to cause an accident).

The original poster tried to piss him off by playing childish games with him. In the result, the original poster escalated someone's case of Road Rage (which would've been more likely to cause an accident than if they had pulled over and let him go) and appeared to be late to work themselves because they were trying to slow someone else down.

Im going to agree with you on it being wrong to jump into the other lane and break job somebody that passes you, but, when Im doing the speed limit I dont move for anything but emergency vehicles displaying lights.
