Good thought, but a lot of people drive on suspended Licenses.
That would be an easy fix.
Just put bar codes on cars like an Easy Pass instead of/in addition to license plates.
It would be easier for cops to use a laser scanner than attempt to read the stickers/numbers at a distance.
Readers could be on the side of the road and if cars registered to someone with a suspended license goes by, it would alert officers to investigate.

That makes no sense. People can drive any vehicle they want... legal or illegal.

And the point of this whole thread? People get punished for accidents? And who is the judge and jury to say who is at fault?

I don't know that it would help  Accidents happen - it's why it's called an "accident". I think loosing your license for a year for a feder bender is ridiculous, if someone hit my fender, I would feel badly for the person if he/she lost his license for a year on account of an "accident". Folks need their license for important things such as going to work, getting food, taking their kids to school, going to the drs.
Actually the industry defines it as colliisions. Accidents are defined as acts of nature, things that you really can't avoid. We can take precautions to avoid collisions. (learned tht little tidbit in drivers educaiton)

Sorry sweetie, but you are wrong. Most if not all car "crashes" occur because someone: wasn't paying attention, was completely negligent, or flat out didn't have the skills to drive a vehicle, thereby causing a crash. There is a movement underway right now in the State Transportation circles to have vehicle " accidents " legally switched to vehicle " crashes ". You are right about the word accident, but since someone is almost always at fault at the occurance of an "accident" they should be called "crashes or incidents".

Sorry to knit-pick, but that is at least what they taught us in Vehicle-Accident-Reconstruction-School. LOL LMAO

Do you have something against the chinese?
you see, i look at someones chineseness as a secondary offense. you cant call someone out for just being chinese, but if they do somethin else, then its fair game. sort of like if talking on your cell just becuase you, like most people are a shiatty driver, you couldnt get pulled over for it, iif it was a secondary offense. but if you speed or something then you whacked for both. i think the same thing goes for fatness. you cant make fun of them for being fat, they have to deserve it first. like if you find out they have aids or something. THEN you can make fun of them for being fat too.

Most if not all crashes are unintentional, or accidental. There are really two choices here - if it was not on purpose, like running somebody off the road due to road rage, then it is accidental. Yes, there are always causes. That still doesn't mean it is intentional.

A woman rear ended my wife because she was paying more attention to her kid in the back seat. She definitely did not intentionally hit my wife. Therefore, while stupid and careless, it was still an accident.

Dear, I'm not saying they couldn't be avoided by paying more attention, I'm just saying it's an accident because most the time folks don't plan on colliding or crashing into other vehicles. It was an accident - doesn't mean it didn't happen, doesn't mean someone's not at fault - it means just that - it was an accident. And yes, you and some others are nit-picking.

You are a very angry, combative and bitter person. You don't know that I'm a cell phone user or a shiatty driver or that MMDad is chinese. You sound like a miserable human being if you stoop to making fun of someone with aids. God forbid if they are chinese, fat, and have aids. You must really get your rocks off trying to find every flaw in someone that you can - how pathetic.

so let me get this right, if I get nailed for speeding because I wasn't watching my speedometer, that's just my stupidity and I should be fined. But if I'm not paying attention to where my car is going, that's an accident and I should be forgiven because I sid not intend to have it happen?

Actually had a cop give me the sad tale of why he didn't write the driver in an accident up. He didnt want her to have to pay a fine on top of the increase in her insurance so he didn't cite her for running the red light. Problem was, sense he only noted it on an unofficial document, she used his lack of a ticket as a rational to explain that she really did have the right of way.... took months for her insurance company to come to their senses. But hey, her negligence just inconvienced others, no problem. Just like that guy that crossed the double yellow line, he didn't mean to fall asleep at the wheel. it was just a long day at work. (followed by a few beers at the bar).
