Both of these men were really fighters. Absolom avenged his sister's rape. David shot down Goliath with a sling shot. Absolom killed a family member for raping his sister and David lost a son for having Bathsheba's husband, Uriah, killed on the battlefield to cover up a one night stand.
Saul had warned Jonathan that if they left David alive, that same David would take over as King leaving Jonathan out. Now David's son has stolen all of Jerusalem. David won Jerusalem by the sword. Absolom used cunning and politics.
We're just about to see this relation hit a real wall.
Just wanted to add a note here.... as we continue with 2 Samuel.... These are the relative of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior.
I think this is a Biblical commentary that is timeless.... every family has it's trials. Jesus must have understood that....
Or that's how I see it anyway!
