LAWRENCE O’DONNELL: Congressman Franks, I’ll try again. Do you wish that his gun held 10 bullets instead of 31 bullets?

REP. TRENT FRANKS (R-AZ): I wish he had not had a gun and he shouldn’t have a gun at all. He was, I think, mentally ill, and we have laws against that in many places. And I think to focus on the clip is like saying that, you know, we’ll combat drunk driving by limiting the size of fuel tanks.

I hope you meant laws against of guns being sold to the mentaly ill, insead of laws against being mentally ill or guns being sold period. Combating drunk driving would be so easy. Install breathalizers in every vehicle sold from now on.
You're drunk, your car doesn't start.

Of course he meant laws against the mentally ill owning guns. Had the county sherrif simply done his job in AZ and had the man evaluated on any one of the previous violent claims against him (instead of telling people to shut up and stop calling, because the man's momma is a county official), this man would never have had the gun, and therefore 9 people would most likely still be alive today.

Wouldn't installing breathalizers be very similar to presuming guilt? We don't require a valid driver's license be scanned by the starter before starting a vehicle!

That might be a good idea though. Might even have to be one aproved by the owner of the vehicle.
