When Florida passed its concealed-weapons law, I thought it was a terrible idea. People would start shooting each other over traffic altercations; parking lots would turn into shooting galleries. Not so, it turned out. Only a very, very few concealed-weapons permits have been revoked. There are only rare incidents in which people with concealed-weapons permits have used them unlawfully. Ordinary law-abiding people, it turns out, are pretty trustworthy.

The only caveat i'd add, just like smoking, It should be up to each establishment whether they wish to permit people to carry, and it should be a crime to carry a weapon inside a store of building or church or other place which chooses to institute a no-weapons policy.

Its private property, the owners have a right to determine the rules. Of course these places will in the course of time be more likely, the target of violent crimes. As such, If a business owner denies people natural tools of self-defense on a premises, they’d then be responsible for providing for the safety of their patrons. (Legal precedent has clearly established that no such duty falls upon law enforcement.)

one fascinating little statistic at the end of the article.

So there’s a quarter million private citizens carrying firearms. Let’s be generous and say that 1,000 were revoked for some reason. That’s 1/260th or 0.00384615385% of permits which have been revoked.

If we go by typical left-wing anti-gun hysteria, the streets of Texas should be running with blood from all these cowboy yahoo rednecks packing weapons, having shootouts over traffic infractions and arguments with store clerks. To borrow a line from 300, the bullets should be blotting out the sun.

Interesting, isn’t it, that this hasn’t happened.
I agree, although I'd like to add that it should be restricted from bars and the like also no matter what the private owner says. Alchohol and Firearms is a bad mix.

.
Than you 'd be asking the gov't to enforce private entities rules.. The LAW would be you can carry ANYWHERE.. if an establishment wants to set their own rules, sobeit, but their only recourse should be to ask you to leave. If you don't leave when asked then you'd be trespassing, then and only then should the police get involved.

Lastly if you are carrying concealed and a theater has a sign saying I'm not welcome, how are they going to know? In the ten plus years I've carried I've only had my gun noticed ONE time.. and I carry a full frame .45.

I agree with you again! This is great, twice in one day! Anyhow, I think Maryland is a control state. They're more afraid of losing control over us, than they are about what would (or wouldn't) happen if we carried guns. Every state that has right to carry (RTC) laws has less crime. I've always believed that many people won't carry even in a RTC state and those that do, are usually the sensible ones who won't try to play "vigil ante". They'll use it strictly for their own protection as it should be.

I think Florida and Texas allow you to go into a bar or establishment that serves alcohol as long as you don't imbibe if you are carrying. I think that makes sense. Kind of like the designated driver. You could be the designated driver and CCW carrier one night and I could the next.

I've tried a couple of years. Been to the Maryland Senate Judiciary Committee to testify. Senator Frosh, in typical overtly afraid fashion cannot understand why anyone needs a gun. He firmly believes the police can protect you. Until he goes, it is highly unlikely any CCW, Castle Doctrine, or similar bills will get out of committee.

When I was on jury duty I got into a "gun arguement" with a fellow juror. She said "why do you need to carry a gun?" my reply was "why do you need to wear a red thong and low rise jeans to jury duty?"

Where did Maryland come up with the title "The Free State", I've yet to find anything free here.

Because the politicians are free to do what they want, no matter what the Constitution says!

Makes sense. They could have a CWI law. Make carrying while intoxicated illegal anywhere, not just bars. Same logic as with automobiles.
