He did, on his sister's advice, seek counseling. He is now at peace that he is a man, who is attracted to other men.

In the film, he objects to the promotion of a desk clerk to inspector because not only is she vastly underqualified, that fact alone could cost them both of their lives. In one amusing sequence, he yanks her quickly from the backblast of a LAW rocket launch, because she didn't know better.

His term is - "stylish". As in when he grills Kate Moore, who's never made an arrest - mentions that officers have pounded the street for ten years, and the department wants to promote a woman. He questions her ability to deal with criminals - and when she claims "it's MY ass" he mentions "except out there, you'll have a partner - and it's a heck of a price to pay for being "styllish" -

Not surprising that in almost fifty years - people still want to promote this or that, not at all based on what everyone else is based on. They voted for the trans for no other reason except being trans. I mean, damn, it's a beauty contest, and he'd be butt ugly as a MALE.
