They've got air-to-air kills, so why not? But "Attack Squadron" would be more appropriate.
Wasn't designed to be a fighter and isn't. The A1 Spad piston engine ATTACK aircraft aircraft downed 2 migs in VN, they didn't change squadron designation to VF from VA. The F100....... zero confirmed kills, better at attack than fighting but will forever be known as a fighter. Not in the same league with navy contemporary F8 Crusader aka "Mig Master".

My favorite plane of that era.
Even though I was around Phantoms most of my life I liked the looks of the Crusader doing breaks on approach........... skidmarks in the sky AND it had the best kill ratio of ANY in VN. Probably ate more personnel than anything else but she was bad assssss. They built a successor, faster than Phantom but only single seat. So fast the canopy actually blistered and was still accelerating before backing off!
Meanwhile Ravens KICKED ASS!

Quite familiar with the aircraft. When my wife and I were at Eglin from 82 - 86, visited the Naval Air Museum in Pensacola quite a lot.

AC-130A S/N 53-3129, nicknamed the First lady. It was the very 1st C-130 off the Lockheed line in 1953.
She was one of the gunships my original USAFR unit flew. By the time I left, the A's were upgraded to E standard.
She was retired in September 1995 to the Air Force Armament Lab Museum on Eglin.

While we were there, I volunteered at the museum.
