ACCIDENTS KEEP PILING UP

Traffic enforcement. Patrolling the roads. Pulling over unsafe or aggressive drivers. I see them all the time parked and sitting door-to-door for coffee and conversation but apparently they have no time to do this. Hell, I have seen people drive unsafe and racing through intersections in turn only lanes, passing at unsafe speeds, driving through red lights... all of this right in front of LEO vehicles. Nothing done about it.
That'll do it..that will make 100% sure a LEO is first to arrive at any accident scene...even before the vehicles involved do.

What could any law enforcement officer have done to prevent this accident?

Active patrolling and enforcement of traffic laws (by ticketing) is a deterrent and will ensure that the most is done to prevent accidents. Doing ABSOLUTELY NOTHING about it has done SO well thus far. Maybe try some actual enforcement for a change. Hell... anything at this point is worth trying. The current status quo obviously isn't working.
It seems to me that you all just don't give a crap and are like "Why bother?" Either that, or you just want to argue for the sake of arguing.

Some critical thinking is involved. Such leads to observations/conclusions like "LEO wouldn't have prevented that driver from veering in to the ditch because cell phone". :yay:

Critical thinking would have lead to observations such as "If LEO would have been patrolling and looking for such things, maybe they would have already ticketed this driver for cell phone use and they would have either NOT been on their phone OR not been driving at all."

Is your response to the horrible accident increases in the area "Oh well, absolutely nothing can be done about it so...?"

The issue is that the enforcement grant system doesn't select for unsafe drivers, just fast ones. It's a self licking ice cream cone. To get the overtime grants you need numbers. And driving around waiting for someone to do something unsafe won't get those numbers. You need to do laser from the side of 235. On weekends since it's all overtime.

Yes there is enforcement in other times and places. But not that much I don't think.

So you do not believe that active patrolling and enforcement is not the answer.

Do tell us what IS the answer. You obviously must know seeing as you can confidently tell us all what is NOT the answer....
I agree with you 100%. I'm all in for supporting the hiring of another 1000 or so deputies. Of course they'll all need cars....facilities...

Apply to be a deputy. They are always looking for dedicated people like yourself.

So traffic enforcement can only be done on overtime? The multi-wreck numbers aren;t good enough to get money for enforcement?

I'll have to remember that the next time I see 2 or 3 LEO vehicles sitting in the Wildwood shopping center door to door. If only they had more of them... maybe they could fill up an entire row

Ahh yes. The old standby. "Just apply."
No thanks. I have a job. I do it very well. I get paid well for it. This happens because I do every aspect of my job very well. Not just selective parts of my job.

Let me guess. Southbound driver thought he/she had time and could clear the opposing lane. Not unusual for that intersection.

It's gonna take a lot of deputies if you want to make sure a LEO arrives at the scene of every crash before the victims do.
