The Prince George’s County Council voted unanimously Tuesday to confirm Acting Chief Malik Aziz as the Prince George’s County Police Department’s 18th Chief of Police. Chief Aziz then took the oath of office at a ceremony at the County Administration Building.

“Over 3 months ago, I was honored to be selected by County Executive Ms. Angela Alsobrooks. Today, I’m honored to be confirmed by our County Council and sworn in as the Chief of Police of Prince George’s County,” said Chief Aziz.

Chief Aziz began his law enforcement career in 1989 with the Dallas Sheriff’’s Office and in 1992 he joined the Dallas Police Department in Texas. He rose the ranks at that agency and most recently served in the role of Deputy Chief.

“I feel fortunate to be a contributing part of two great law enforcement agencies. I’m looking forward to finding solutions that will progress the community and officers in the challenging times of 21st Policing,” said Chief Aziz.
