One thing to note - the extra earnings/payments may not automatically be applied to your SS payments. You have to apply for this when you apply for your benefits, it is not retroactive but you need to apply for the increase if you are eligible.

Remember - the government NEVER volunteers information that may help you.

So when I get one of those statements from the SSA, does it reflect these credits or do I have to do something, even though the article says I don't?

If your active military service occurred

* From 1957 through 1967, we will add the extra credits to your record when you apply for Social Security benefits.
* From 1968 through 2001, you do not need to do anything to receive these extra credits. The credits were automatically added to your record.
* After 2001, there are no special extra earnings credits for military service.

I wonder how someone knows that they received the credit?

Thanks for posting this. I fall within the dates when the credits are supposed to be automatic. It would be nice if there was a way to see if it actaully happened.
