Hi there.. after my brothers death, my family held a "meeting" at the Bowles Farm and alot of "counseling" agencies were there to talk about what all they offered.. W/S has counseling but theres also alot of groups I can get you their information for.. alot of groups are out there, I never knew existed to be honest.. One is thru the Hospice - they have teenage counseling, theres also another group out've Mechanicsville - in fact that group was just on the bottom page of the newspaper like within the last week.. If u'd like - PM me and I will get u some more information. Good luck...

You could try Walden Sierra. Although from my experience with my son, I would for a Psychiatrist first. It seemed that kids these days have counselor's figured out on what not to say.

It is hard finding someone that specializes in adolescents. Most of them only deal with adults. She has a psychiatrist that she has been seeing, but the doctor has failed to see the degree of depression. She usually shows her "true" self at home, I have seen her. Like you already know, they know what to say to get what they want.

Have you done family therapy? It may help the shrink person to have someone close to the girl telling them what they see at home.

Keep in mind that counseling is for more minor problems. For clinical issues, you need a real doctor.

Been there....

My husband and I have a 16 year old that has suffered from manic depression/ bi-polar disorder/ emotional problems. It took us several years to get her where she is today...she's in a RTC up in Baltimore. We ended up going through Center For Children, I-HIP Services, the Maryland Wrap Around Program and through the mental health services office in Leonardtown. Trust me when I say it's a long and hard road, but we were very happy to see that she is now getting the help that she needed and that we were unable to give.....not that we didn't try, but b/c she would threaten to commit suicide just to get out of class/school every day and there was other behaviors too. Sheppard's Pratt up in Baltimore is very good. They have been doing a great job with our daughter. I don't know if it helps you or not, but I have been there and any help I can give, I will. I wish you the best.

I feel your pain. I have a 16 yr old daughter that has had her share of problems. Hers started in 5th grade, complaining everyday that her stomach hurt and she didn't want to go to school. We got her through 5th grade with a lot of help from her teacher. We tried 6th grade and ended up putting her in private school thinking that maybe a smaller class would be the answer. We had so many tests done on her to try to figure out what was going on. Everything came back normal. The only thing we came up with was School Anxiety. I ended up pulling her out in 8th grade because of smart*ss kids and parents. I homeschooled her the rest of 8th grade. Re-enrolled her in public school for 9th grade and somehow/someway she figured out a way to make it work and was able to attend school again. We received alot of help/support from her school counselors. It has been 2 1/2 years and everything has been excellent. My sister is the one with problems now with her 16 yr old. I will have her contact you if she needs to. Her problems have been going on for about 2 yrs now. Good days and bad days through out. Bad days are Ugly!
