Adoption Fees

Jam out with ur clam out
I know this has been discussed in here, but I cannot find the thread. I fully understand why there are adoption fees. I also fully understand why they go up as things get more expensive with this economy. But, can someone please explain to me why Wednesday’s Pet is Porclia | Southern Maryland News Net is $375...

Thanks.

Full vet check
Spayed or neutered
Bloodwork
Vaccines
Any underlying health issues addressed

Hell.. call around and ask for prices of office visits and a complete work up

Last year the average adoption fee was $225 and now I see this. I just think it's a bit much.

Cracks me up how people think owning a pet is cheap....lol

Till it gets sick....

Hell I didnt know the dog I adopted had THREE serious tick borne diseases.. till I ran some tick panels on her.... OMG.... the medication alone was close to 300 bucks to treat her with.

Just wondering how the prices vary so much. Search Results wednesday’s pet | Southern Maryland News Net

I know that the rescues do get funding from other sources. It may not be full funding, but I cannot understand why it is still costing them $375 for a full vet check. How is the Well Pet Clinic able to do all of this for less?

I just took my two dogs to their well-baby check-up and the cost is about $300 per dog. They didn't get spayed or have to be treated for any ailments so the adoption fee seems reasonable to me considering that amount includes spay/blood check/stool analysis/vaccines/ and then some...

I KNOW it is not cheap. But, I think that asking $375 for a rescue is a bit much. Sorry, but that's just the way that I feel.

I tend to agree with Socki in this. When I last adopted, I paid the fee but I then understood that the dog's known and unknown problems were mine to deal with. I was assuming the expense going forward.

As high as the fees have gotten, it seems like it will discourage adoption. Why pay the adoption fee if you can get the same dog for less elsewhere? Doesn't this just encourage the backyard breeders to continue since they are cheaper?

I understand that the rescues have to recoup their costs or they cannot exist, but there'd be a lot more people willing to adopt if they fees weren't so high. There's no easy answer to this.

I had my dog spayed and vetted at the one in Lexington Park. I had my cats done there as well. They were great and I most definitely did not pay that much. I could not have afforded it.

I know. It amazes me to see some of the posts on S MD Freecycle. If you can't even afford a bottle of flea shampoo, you can't afford a pet. Yes, somebody actually posted ISO: flea shampoo. can't afford it. What the hell is that person going to do when the dog decides to eat a shoe and has to have it surgically removed? Hell, they obviously can't even afford to have it humanely euthanized.

If I elected to get their teeth cleaned because they do have plaque build-up it would cost about $800 apiece to get it done.

And obviously you paid too much since you went over the $375 threshold.

I know it's more expensive for dogs, but my cat had all that and was microchipped and it was $65, not sure what dogs are, but I don't think it's more than $100. Florida is really cheap for animal adoptions, not sure why, but I have a feeling it's because so many elderly donate and adopt, that's just my guess.

I just know that it did not cost me $300 when I had my dog vetted. But these rescues can continue to stay crowded because people will not be able to afford $375 adoption fees. I see Wednesday's pets from 2 rescues on a regular basis. Both claim that their dogs are spayed/neutured and FULLY vetted, yet one charges $225 and the other $375.

It didn't cost me $300 to have my dogs vetted either... AND? Rescues charge different fees because THEY ARE NOT ALL THE SAME. Vets charge different fees because THEY ARE NOT ALL THE SAME.

You may think it's stupid, just like I think it's stupid that someone who can't afford to take their 3 kids to the fair and buy them ride bracelets is scoping out dogs.

I think it's a sign of the times. The economy has sucked for years, I don't care what anybody says. The donations have to be getting fewer and further between, so then the care for these animals starts coming out of the pockets of the rescue organization volunteers pockets. I suspect they'd like to recoup their money so they can pay their bills and put food on their tables.

I am NOT scoping out dogs for myself. My aunt who was widowed is looking for a small dog for a companion.
