I have a 4 year old son, who was fairly easy to potty train and rarely had accidents during the day. He is still wearing night time diapers, which is fine, i understand that his body isnt "old enough" yet to wake up to go to the bathroom while sleeping at night. the thing is in the morning he ALWAYS poops in his diaper. i dont know what to do to get him us the potty in the morning. he is always telling me he wants to go in his diaper. he knows very well how to use the potty and just decides not to in the morning. anyone have any ideas? we have tried rewarding him when he uses the potty, and we tried telling him its yucky to go in the diaper when he is old enough to use the potty.

Is this after he wakes?
Remove his diaper and put him on the potty ASAP, or have you already tried this?

If he is going all the night with no accidents, I would put him to bed in regular underware. Another suggestion is to stop giving him food/drink earlier in the evening and make him sit on the potty prior to going to bed.

I would put him in regular underware, he would be ore likely to use the potty then. Nothing to drink after 6-7:00 depending on when he goes to bed. I would give mine a sip of water right before they went to bed.

If he's still going at night...which is fine for that age...you can't put him in underwear at night. He is, however old enough at this point, to change his own clothes in the morning. Make it his job to get dressed when he gets up. Make sure he knows where to properly dispose of the wet diaper/pull-up/goodnight and if need be, lay out his clothes the night before. He's not going to want to clean up poop, so he'll stop.

Potty training my son has been a nightmare. Last week, I found a system that worked. A quarter for pee and a dollar for poop. Saturday he had a bit too much juice and got the squirts. Eight bucks later the poop price got dropped to two quarters. He knows that money buys toys. He understands that once the jar is filled up he can buy a toy. He really wants a karaoke player. It is working great. :yahoo:

Is he pooping in the morning before anyone else in the house is awake? It could simply be that he is afraid to venture out of his bedroom alone to the bathroom. It could also be that he gets your undivided attention first thing in the morning - even if its negative attention. Is there a younger child in the house still in diapers, he could be jealous of the attention the younger child is getting during diaper changes. Have a conversation with him by saying "you know when I was little, I didn't like to use the bathroom but now I can't remember why I felt that way! Do you think you can help me try to remember? Can you think of some reasons why someone might not like to use the toilet/bathroom?"
