Affordable Wedding Decorators

Hi I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for an affordable wedding planner or decorator in St. Mary's county? I have read the reviews on one and am not quite sure I would go with her. Also the other one I found was quite steep in price. We are coming out of pocket for our own wedding and we are not cutting expenses when it comes to food or beverages but would like to cut costs when possible. Our colors are hot pink, black and white. Even if someone has things from there wedding that they wouldn't mind getting rid of that would be wonderful :) Thanks in advance for any ideas!

Not exactly inexpensive....

I HIGHLY recommend Tracy Fowler. She isn't exactly cheap, but I heard she will work with any budget. I used her for my wedding and the decorations were absolutely gorgeous, I received tons of compliments! Plus, you don't have to worry about anything with her. She does it all. Good luck!

She was one I actually read reviews about, also saw some pictures and they all seem like the same kind of design. There were more bad reviews than good so I am a little concerned with that.

That's surprising, I thought she did a great job. I had a peacock themed wedding so maybe that helped with it not looking like all the rest? As far as she goes, sometimes she was a bit hard to get a hold of, but that was about it. Also, like I said, she can be pricey. I think the more $$ you're willing to spend the more personalized your decorations will be. I have a feeling them looking all the same comes from weddings that possibly have a smaller budget, just a guess, but they're probably getting the standard run of the mill if you know what I mean. I think it all boils down to the fact that you get what you pay for.

Back in my day (got married in 1991) getting together with friends and family to make our own decorations and then doing the actual decorating was part of the fun and added to the memories... don't people do that anymore?

That's what I did.

In fact, I planned my entire wedding without outside help. We had about 200 people.

I planned my entire wedding myself too. Friends and family helped me make decorations and such and then the evening before the wedding we decorated the hall. We had 375 guests.

I hand sculpted Elvis statues out of polymer clay to use as the centerpiece of every table at my wedding. Friends and family then painted them.

I went to Vegas and had a full scale wedding with guests, cake, champagne, wedding pictures, video, etc for around $2K. That was stressful and expensive enough. I can't even imagine paying for a local wedding. :faint:

You were very smart in selecting your theme. It allowed you to incorporate you black velvet Elvis paintings at no extra expense to you!

My family has always done our own weddings. Between internet suppliers and the craft stores, it was so much cheaper and a lot of fun. If no one is really "crafty" just keep it simple. Also the reception hall (depending where you choose) and the florists often offer great deals on decorations.

We just went to a "Pinterest" wedding (as the MoTB called it). It was "country" theme and very pretty. We have an upcoming wedding in the planning stages, so we were very interested in the planning for this one. MoTB said that the bride wanted to do things herself to save money, but based on the other 2 daughter's weddings, there really wasn't much of a savings and it was way more stressful and a lot more work without a planner. We're still going to do it on our own, but thankfully the bride doesn't want to go "all out".

I've been keeping an eye on Craigslist, watching people looking for help with setup/cleanup for weddings - and that doesn't seem to be cheap either. It sounds like the OP wants something not like everyone else's and inexpensive or free, and preferably done by someone else. So hopefully the wedding fairy will see this thread and come to the rescue. Otherwise, she probably needs to either decide to spend the money, pare down expectations or get family and friends together to do it on their own. People doing this for a living know the going rate and have to factor in materials and labor - no professional is going to give their service away.

I am not looking for someone to do anything for free that's just silly. We have a budget and I am trying to stay within it. I am looking for a wedding planner/ decorator who is not going to charge $100 per table for the linens, chair covers and sash's. Thanks for the input everyone, we luckily have found a few prospective planners!

My mistake, I misinterpreted that as looking for some freebies. Also, by professionals "giving their services away", I didn't mean free of charge, but rather for a rate much lower than would normally be expected. Good luck with the wedding!
