I seem to remember the WHO saying much the same thing (eliminating the sexual transmission bits) about tuberculosis in the 80's. Now we have a raging epidemic of resistant TB in the world and no public health measures to control it (thanks to the liberals and queers who killed public health laws to favor the privacy of those HRM individuals).

Those of us who were selective and practiced safe sex with partners of the opposite sex were pretty safe to begin with, the biggest shame in this Aids epidemic is that we spend more to research AIDS than we do to research a cure for Cancer, which IS epidemic in Southern Maryland.

The fact is Southern Maryland has one of the highest Cancer rates in the Country. If you were researching cancer you would place a research center in the heart of where the disease is most prominent. Obviously the Cancer people dont do that since Southern Maryland does not seem to be getting a cancer research center.

All of you heterosexuals out there think for a minute. How many friends have you buried with AIDS as compared to Cancer. Probably 10 to 1 or greater.

St. Mary's County has the 10th highest rate in Maryland. Maryland is 12th in the country. While those rates are high, they are hardly anything to over.

Most people would have to admit that they know 50 people who died of cancer to every one who died of HIV/AIDS. The death rate from AIDS is only 2% that of cancer.

In 2006, there were 36,828 HIV cases diagnosed, and 14,016 deaths.

In 2008, the CDC estimates 1,437,180 new cancers, and 565,650 cancer deaths.

In 25 years, there have been 962,498 HIV/AIDS diagnoses, and 545,805 deaths. That means that in 25 years HIV/AIDS has sickened or killed fewer people than cancer does in one year.

I don't share needles, I don't sleep around. Short of being raped or the unlikely event that a hospital gives me a blood transfusion of contaminated blood, I have no risk of AIDS.

I have a feeling a majority of us are in the same boat.
