Tried to listen to it via webstream last week - shut it off after about an hour or so. I can be entertained by the libs because some of it is actually funny and right on target. But this was just stupid and childish.

Al Franken's notquite plagiarism to provoke a response out of Fox is played out. His segment of AA is the "O'Franken Factor" and he invites his guests into the "Zero Spin Zone". If he were any more unoriginal he'd have to change his name to Stephen Ambrose.

Janeane Garofalo is a one-note wonder - she thinks louder and more shrill equals intelligent political analysis.

One of the hosts (I can't remember which one) was talking about this Fallujah business and pretty much said the same thing they're saying over at the DU - that the dead people deserved it and too bad for them.

The whole cast of characters has this hippie-leftover, fight-the-power mentality that's irritating coming from teenagers, let alone "adults".

Anyway, the whole thing was boresville and without merit. I'll give 'em a year, then bye-bye unless they tweak their format and get their act together. Right now it's like they plunked a microphone down at the Middle School and just let the kids come up and say whatever they wanted.

You lasted an HOUR? I only lasted 5 minutes before I had to turn it off. :boo: Calling it stupid and childish is being nice; it was downright mean and nasty.

Haven't heard it... but

To succeed, You have to ask a crucial question: will it build a loyal following? Rush, Sean, et al all have loyal listeners in the multiple millions...how will the Libs maintain a loyal following if it is childish, crude, sophmoric?...thus-right wing conspiracy lives on, Liberal mimicry fails.

.... ...... ..... .... wait for it ......

Obviously it will have a loyal following of childish, crude, sophmoric liberals. The question is whether there are enough of them to support a radio show.

I get the same thing. I listened yesterday about 3 in the afternoon, so they were up then.

It doesn't matter what one thinks...

...of Limbaugh, O'Reilly or any of the other evil forces Air America is designed to combat.

The bottom line is O'Reilly and Limbaugh and Glen Beck and all the others are clearly doing something they love and they are good at. Their talents fit their medium.

I think it's great to try and launch a competitor but until they get someone who has something to say besides "I HATE you and I can't explain why" then it will be some tough sledding.

The established programs are all about commentary on life in America, mostly politics. They are questioning and exploring the powers that be; elected officials, town councils and legitmate entities that have power over peoples lives.

O'Franken's show is in taking issue with the opinions of the other shows WITHOUT EVEN bothering to offer an opinion in rebuttal.

It's just the standard everybody knows thus and such, Limbaugh is a big fat idiot. O'Reilly is mean. Bush Family Evil Empire, Blah, blah, blah...

I would enjoy it if they simply took one day and played a segment from say, Limbaugh, that Al disagrees with or has a problem with, and then just make a damn point in opposition.

Anything but this cliqish 'well, if you don't get it then too bad' crap.

It's like a bad religion.

He had some woman on last week who'd know him forever and had her address the claim that liberals hate America and this poor woman just cackled like she was insane. Just the 'obvious' that that is impossible, nevermind discussing the basis for the claim and move the show on to...Bush obviously hating every living, breathing thing in the Universe like it is as plain as the nose on your face...which everyone knows.

On the Air America site, the description for the O'Franken show says "Franken and Lanpher have a mean streak a smile wide." That pretty much sums it up - the show is about being mean, not discussing political viewpoints.

That's all I heard when I tuned in. I didn't hear ANYTHING about THEIR opinion - just a bunch of name-calling. In the 5 or so minutes I tuned in, I heard stuff like "bunch of Archie Bunkers", "not our intellectual equals", ad nauseum.

See, this is why lib talk shows don't work - the libs don't do it right. There's a lot of stuff to bust on Bush about - legitimate stuff! But they don't have the intellectual capacity to discuss it - they just want to hurl invective.

Phil Donohue actually had a pretty good show. His problem was that he kept inviting conservatives on there to try and debunk them. The conservatives would then take Donohue apart, point by point. Hell, Phil even stacked the audience with liberals to help him question his guest and it STILL didn't fly.

RRaley should have his own Democrat political show. He always makes good points based on another POV instead of just mindless hatred.

Got through - tame show today. Backing off BIG TIME on the bombastic talk - more questioning the Saddam-9/11 connection. It's like they're all on Prozac or something.
