TLDR: SW canceled flights, then threatened to arrest passengers trying to get information about their flights. Said they had to leave the gate area and go back out to the ticket counter outside security since they no longer had a valid boarding pass.

Pretty sure I'm going to drive to see my folks in May.

As much as I despise what the cellphone has done to society, the camera feature in cases like this protect the peons. Otherwise “officials “ would say it never happened.

All of these flights canceled, it's a shame because there are so many illegals waiting at the airport on Phoenix to be flown to their new residences in Florida and other states.

They walk from Nicaragua and Uruguay and other South American countries and they get here and get flown and bused all around our country. Isn't that great? Of course we know where each and every one of them are so we can get in touch with them when the time comes to have their hearing.
There are 5 States in our country where the population of those states is not equal to the number of people who simply walked across our border last year. Isn't that great?
Thank You Joe Biden. WE taxpayers appreciate paying for their medical their education, their shelter in our hotels.

Having Fun!
Oh, it definitely was a mess! It was literally the "perfect storm" of events --- neglect of computer systems, an almost nationwide "winter
weather event", COVID/Flu/RVS, staff shortages, and the Christmas holiday. After all, what could possibly go wrong???

The good coming out of it is that Southwest has now been put on notice that they really have to UP their game or go under.

Flights were mostly back to normal yesterday, although daughter's 6:45 AM flight to NOLA, didn't actually leave until 10:47 due to a maintenance issue involving computers. They tried to fix, and ultimately ended up switching planes, fortunately, crew switched with them. She travels a fair amount, always goes Southwest, and hasn't had a problem until this flight. IMHO, it's way better to just switch out planes, than spend the whole trip worrying if the "issue" was really "fixed"!

I've had a standing rule to not fly between before Thanksgiving to after February. There was a while there where planes were going down left and right during that time frame, mostly due to ice/winter weather. Now with all the rest of the industry problems, I'll only fly if it is time-critical to be somewhere. I really hate dealing with airports.

I view it as a risk management situation.

Everyone wants to be with loved ones at Christmas, but there are factors to be considered.
1. It's the busiest time for travel.
2. There may be severe weather.
3. If there are underlying problems with staffing/systems/equipment, the previous two factors will magnify them dramatically.

You assess your odds and make your decision knowing that there's a chance it could all turn to ointment.

Southwest being sued by a passenger for failure to refund after cancellations.
Though Southwest has promised to reimburse passengers for expenses, Capdeville said it offered only a credit to him and his daughter after scrapping their Dec. 27 flight to Portland, Oregon from New Orleans and being unable to book alternative travel.
