You old grandpas might get a kick out of this but no one under 40 knows who Alfred E Newman is and it only highlights how old and out of touch Trump is.

To each his own. I'm amused at the idiocy of younger people who believe that if it happened before they were born,
they're not expected to know anything about it. It keeps happening - I run into people for whom "before they were born"
includes the Gulf War, the Clintons and even 9/11.

It is still in print, and MAD TV ran for fifteen seasons, only ending ten years ago.
At its peak, MAD had close to 3 million subscribers. What made MAD different is that it lampooned everyone.
But admittedly, all magazines are disappearing.

Why is anyone proud of being ignorant of something? I'll bet you ace Jeopardy.

I would make a guess and say that MAD isn't as popular as it once was because lampooning now is considered Offensive, and MAD would be sending the kids to their safe places.

Ignorance is a Trump supporters rallying cry. They say Mayor Pete was showing off speaking in that fancy French of his.

There has never been a more proudly ignorant group than those who support Trump gimme a break

Powerline blog had a nice little write-up on Democratic candidate Alfred E. Neumann. It includes both Trump's comment and Buttigieg's response. (If Trump was able to introduce the nickname with a straight face it would have been even more funny than it already is.)

You may have already seen a version of the talking point here on the Forum (in this thread, in fact). But I'm betting it will fare poorly in the face of the utter comedic value of the nickname (especially once people find out who AEN is).

So you think Alfred E Newman is a stroke of genius and a “kill shot” but but bankruptcies, fraud, cheating on his pregnant wife with a porn star didn’t stop you from voting for Trump. Why would a nickname keep someone from voting for a person who speaks 7 languages and has devoted himself to public service
