McDonald's Shooting
News 14 Carolina's Jennifer Moxley has more on the shooting and whether the employee will face charges.
CHARLOTTE -- Two people were shot, one fatally, during a robbery attempt Thursday night at a west Charlotte fast-food restaurant.
According to police, 20-year-old Donte Antonio McFadden entered a McDonald’s on Freedom Drive around 10 p.m., took out a gun and demanded money. An employee, also armed, intervened and exchanged gunfire with McFadden.
McFadden and another employee were struck. The woman was treated for non-life-threatening injuries and released from Carolinas Medical Center. McFadden was also transported to CMC, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.
The shooting happened around 10 p.m. Thursday at a McDonald's on Freedom Drive.
According to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg police Web site, McFadden had two previous charges. He was arrested in 2005 for disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.
Mecklenburg County district attorney Peter Gilchrist says when employees fight back against criminals there is a lot they have to take into consideration before filing charges, such as deciding if the person had to use deadly force. He says each case is looked at individually.
No charges have been filed yet in this case.
Police say that particular McDonald’s has only been robbed twice in four years, once last year and once in 2001.
