St. Mary’s College of Maryland alumna Katelyn Kean ‘16 recently became registrar for the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum’s collection of more than 70,000 bay-related objects.
The Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum, located in St. Michaels, Maryland, is a non-profit educational organization dedicated to preserving and exploring the history, environment, and culture of the Chesapeake Bay region.
According to information provided by the museum, in her role, Kean will maintain the collection, its corresponding records, and facilitate access to it.
“Katelyn is a superb addition to preservation and interpretation team, and brings skills in the treatment of historic objects and a depth of knowledge of collections care that is moving us to a new level of professionalism,” wrote CBMM Chief Curator Pete Lesher in a release.
Kean studied anthropology and history while attending St. Mary’s College and is working toward a graduate degree from Johns Hopkins University, where she is studying museum studies.
Prior to joining the CBMM staff, Kean held positions at James Madison’s Montpelier, Shenandoah National Park, and the Harpers Ferry Center with the National Park Service.
