You're right! I was having issues with my router and cable modem when I first began answering this thread, and then had dinner going and completely forgot about going back to read the whole thing. I was basing my replies on the points made at the beginning of the article.

Additional points I discovered from the article:

*"An incident report filed by police noted that the 4-foot tall girl 'was destroying school property, attacking staff, out of control, and running out of school.

*'The subject has been diagnosed with disruptive mood, disregulation disorder, and is prescribed Adderall,' it continued.

* Nadia was diagnosed with ADHD in 2017 and is waiting for test results to determine whether she has autism. Nadia is on medication for mental health issues and is in a special needs class"

ADHD is not enough to cause the behaviors described in the article, but disruptive mood and disregulations disorder would be. She may well be autistic.

The school did not make the decision to call the police:

*A spokesman for Duval County Public Schools said that the decision was made by Child Guidance, a private company, that receives cash from Florida's Department of Children and Families.

'Officers in the video were not present during the events which motivated the school to call Child Guidance, our crisis response care provider.

'The police officers were also not present when Child Guidance was intervening with the student. It was the mental health counselor from Child Guidance, not the police officer or school personnel, who made the Baker Act decision,' a spokesperson said.

'Our procedure is to call Child Guidance when a student's crisis is not de-escalating and the student is at risk of self-harm or harming others. Our staff followed that procedure.

'The student was calm when she left the school, but at that point, Child Guidance had already made the decision
to Baker Act based on their intervention with the student. The judgement to Baker Act rested completely with the mental health professional.

'We cannot speak on behalf of Child Guidance regarding decision making in this matter, but we have already requested a leadership meeting with Child Guidance to review this situation.'

I couldn't find anything on that Child Guidance company when I did a search. Need to know more about them. :yay:

There are a lot of unknowns with regard to the child's evaluations and diagnosis. However, she will be evaluated at the Hope Haven Medical facility, where she is at right now, and that will be a good thing. Hopefully, this will help identify the proper class placement for her.

  • The six-year-old was committed under the Baker Act, a Florida law
  • The act allows involuntary detention for people impaired by mental illness

I thought Obama and Florida made it so these sorts of things didn't happen to disadvantaged "yute."

I didn't see that part among all the photos and ads and asides about blah blah.

That makes it worse because she was with people who are trained to deal with outbursts, and yet they felt the need to call the police and have her committed. Clearly her problems are serious and not just a "tantrum".

Looks to me like things worked as they are supposed to work under the laws of the state of FL. All I could see in the video is a very professional and compassionate officer calmly interacting with the girl. It's not like they tazed and hogtied her.

Your ADHD kids right to an education in a regular classroom ends where my kid gets a chair hurled his way.

I don know 'bout chu all. But I'ma thinking we pass a law like that here. Local high school problem makers would be straightened up, along with their parents, ricky tic.

My brother and I both had what would become ADHD when we were young, a strong arm from Master Chief cured both of us.

ADHD is a real thing, it just became a fad and got overdiagnosed to mean "normal rowdy child, let's drug him". I hate that, too, because it's a disservice to kids who really have an issue, not to mention the kid who's being Munchausened.

I made light of it because so many times when folks tell you about one or two of their children that have it, you look at the kids and they are drinking a Mountain Dew through rotten teeth and have a bag of Double Stuffs in the other hand....

In the 5th grade, I punch a kid in the mouth knocking the person's tooth out. No cops were called. I was suspended for a couple of days, and my parents had to pay the dental bill. Of course I was grounded for a month by my parents and I had to apoligize to the person. I learned my lesson to keep my hands to myself, and didn't need cop, detention, or mental institutions for that. Today, I would be charged with assault and battery and hauled off to juvenile detention.
Well it could have been bad, circa 2004 or so my 8th grader actually did get suspended for a week less time served for doing something stupid. He formed the KKK club.... the Kill Kelly Klub  so needless to say I was called in and he got a weeks vacation which he spent painting the house, mowing the lawn and every other shiit job I could think of. He really meant no malice. just some stupid thing 13 year olds do. The principal kept it low key as possible since she knew him from kindergarten and he was never a problem.
Today he's a shrink in NYC working for the school system.... go figure.
