Swiped this pic from his opponents Facebook page. Flaherty for Calvert. He also says there was a bunch of rockfish that washed on the beaches of Calvert Cliffs State Park south of the power plant. Thinking it's gonna be an interesting fiasco to watch this whole thing play out. Chatting with friends, (yes, I happen to have a couple, or one. Ok, they are just acquaintances, happy now?), at Buckets, they are not at all happy campers with a data center going to be their new neighbor. Course that could be contributed to the drink. There was a slight skirmish the other night during conversation. But I think that was caused by a fellow oogling at another fella's woman, not related to the data center.

One the one hand, Prime Video will stream super low latency (yay?), on the other hand our power bills will be going up and we will have rolling blackouts while they try to force everyone to use smart metered HVAC to cover the electrical needs. Win win.

I saw a video of a meeting between the County Commissioners and a couple of State Representatives where the State Reps. were asking questions that sounded like they were trying to find out about this project. Pretty much all they received from what I remember where that the Commissioners had signed a non disclosure agreement with the business entity and were unable to respond to the questions. I'm not a lawyer but I don't see how they can represent the people of Calvert County and be unable provide at least some cursory information. It just bothers me.

...a future where energy-intensive data centers bypass the traditional electric grid and plug directly into its two-reactor facility in Calvert County.

Bypass? Seems like the plant is a personal standby generator for Amazon.

Contract negotiations are generally allowed to be undisclosed under Maryland's Open Meetings law (personnel issues and consultation with the attorney are also covered in that). Those would be held in an Executive Session.
So it may not be covered by an NDA as was stated but Open Meetings. Of course, if a contract is entered into that has to be disclosed eventually and usually has a public vote (personnel is an exception to that).
I'll use a North Beach example for a contract negotiation although I can't give details:
Several years ago the Town was negotiating with a property owner to buy a property on which to place the new Library. Those negotiations fell through for a couple of reasons so the Library was built where it is now on property the Town already owned. All that was publicized was that the negotiation was unsuccessful and no reasons were given.

Good thing the local infrastructure can handle a data center. How many will be working there 10, maybe 20 employees?

This is too funny. "Constellation argues that co-locating [bypassing the grid] data centers at power plants is a win-win." So let's do some critical thinking here. Easy numbers so ..... Constellation produces 100MW. An Amazon Data Center would require 50MW. Which would leave 50MW to send to the grid. Am I missing something, or would that leave a deficit of 50MW on the grid?
