Sorry about being a thread hijacker.......but I just wanted to share MY experiences with the "Eskie."
My N-D-N's first one love me to death. She always wanted attention. I don't know if it's because she smelled my cat on me or what, but she (the dog) ALWAYS WANTED ATTENTION. One night I was invited over for dinner and we were watching a movie afterward; the dog jumped up on the couch and laid on my lap and waited to be petted; and when I stopped I got that 'HEY....why did you stop?' look.
N-D-N's lost her to cancer.
THEN came "Dusty"; their "Rescue dog." THAT one wants to rip my throat out!
I must look like his abusers or something. :shrug:

Sorry about the loss of your first Eskie, that's very sad!
My Eskie is also a rescue, and he's very picky about who he loves. He acts very much like the 1st one you described, to me and those he has choosen to love. Others he will tolerate, but if he had his choice, he'd probably prefer to tear their throats out... Eskies are peculiar little dogs, but when they love you they love you completely!
