"American Idol" producers released a statement regarding Bloomfield resident Natasha Bellot's death.A Sunday single-vehicle crash on I-95 left Bellott, 20, dead and Leslie McCoy, 19, of Montclair seriously injured, according to the Pennsylvania State Police.
The travelers were returning from Bellott's "American Idol" audition at Temple University's Liacouras Center in Philadelphia, the show's producers confirmed Monday.
"We are deeply saddened by this tragedy," a statement reads. "Our hearts go out to the Bellott family, and our thoughts and prayers for a full recovery are with the other people who were injured in this terrible accident."
"The preliminary investigation revealed that the crash occurred as [the driver] lost control of [the silver 2003 Jeep Liberty] after passing another vehicle, which was traveling north in the right lane, on the shoulder at a high rate of speed," a press release states.
It continues: "[The Jeep] traveled from the right northbound shoulder, across both northbound lanes and into the center grass median, where it rolled over several times. It was later determined that three of the six occupants had been ejected from the vehicle."
