Amish mills?

Anyone know of an Amish Mill in St. Mary's or Calvert that would make boards out of a tree/log for you?

We had to cut down a black walnut tree, it had a desease that hollowed out the trunk, but the rest of the tree is in good shape. The tree service that took it down for us said that it was straight and good for furniture, we could sell it to a mill...However, we are in the process of finishing our basement and would like to use the wood ourselves for a custom made mantel for our stone fireplace. Any ideas on how to get it made into boards? We already have a carpenter, who is doing our basement, who will build the mantel once we have the boards. TIA :huggy:

Saw Mill in Thompson Corner area

My father and I had our boards produced from this Amish mill over the years.
It's on Thompson Corner Road - route 236 near or in Thompson Corner place.

-=Google map-=

Another mill in Calvert we used to go is not in business now but might come back in business later. It's the small one on Dare Beach Rd. I drove by and saw their saw mill equipment not being set up yet. Not sure if they decided to stop or just put on hold.

I've done a few Google searches, how do I contact them, do you know? We go to Budd's Creek MX Park, so I'm sure we've passed them, but I don't recall a sign. Any further information will be greatly appreciated! :howdy:

When did the Amish move to Calvert?

Apparently, they haven't, I just didn't know! There used to be a business that sold Amish sheds on Rt 4 just before Huntingtown (if you're heading north) but they're not there anymore.

Have you tried Portable Sawmill Service Co., 301-246-4636? Not Amish but they say they will come to your place or you can come to theirs.

Whatever lumber you get and whoever you get it from, make sure it is kiln-dried. Air-dried is OK if you have a moisture meter to check the content for around 6% moisture. Kiln-dried is better. A very long time ago I made some kitchen cabinet out of a few pieces of air-dried. It split and cracked. From then I always use kiln-dried or check the moisture levels.
