What's the purpose of an endorsement AFTER the primaries have everything decided? Isn't he late to the show?

I saw the previous thread. I just thought it interesting it's surfacing again after Obama's weekend victories. Sounds like someone wants to drive a stake in Shrillary's heart while she's down.
