Citing the recent war in Lebanon as the final straw, God declared that, until further notice, each of the world's major religions would be punished. God then sent the religious leaders, with their faiths, to their rooms so they could "sit and think about all the ways they've been bad. They can take their sacred books with them to read," continued God, "but that's it. No TV, no cellphone, and no iPod."

Responding to questions, God offered various opinions about life on earth, including reality TV ("No comment: Ask the Devil"), global warming ("I didn't turn up the thermostat"), and the recent Boston Red Sox-New York Yankees series ("I had to turn it off. It was too painful to watch").

While it's true that God has a habit of punishing all for the sins of a few, I fail to see why Christians, Jews, Buddhists or Zoroastrians would be punished. They're not the ones strapping bombs on their young people to commit mass destruction.

Excellent point.

Here comes the "but"...the holier-than-thou attitude can be found in all religions to a certain extent. In my opinion, that attitude doesn't get enough condemnation, at least in the media. Not every believer who holds that attitude is a murderer, of course, but I argue that all believers who murder in the name of their religions hold that attitude.

Christians and Jews have been guilty of terrorism in the name of religion. When Britain ruled Palestine, terrorism was committed by both Palestianian Arabs and Jewish settlers, including the future prime minister Menachem Begin. The Protestant-versus-Catholic bloodshed in Ulster is well known. Christians and Muslims in Nigeria have been at each other's throats in Nigeria for the past decade or so.

For me, the ghastliness of turning young people into suicide bombers shows what kind of evil the holier-than-thou attitude can produce, no matter what religion.

I submit that it is not Protestants, Catholics, Jews, Muslims, or the like but humans bent of selfish, power hungry, my way or no way. As long as there is sin, there will be murder in the name of some god. The God of the Jews and Christians has and does call people to war. That is evidenced several places in the Bible. There is scripture that indicates that Hitler (no, Hitler is not named) was a tool of God to get the Jews to turn back to Him.But there is much more suffering and turmoil caused by the sin of man than wars of righteousness.
