And they call Peter a saint!

2 Peter 1:12 So I will always remind you of these things, even though you know them and are firmly established in the truth you now have. 13 I think it is right to refresh your memory as long as I live in the tent of this body, 14 because I know that I will soon put it aside, as our Lord Jesus Christ has made clear to me. 15 And I will make every effort to see that after my departure you will always be able to remember these things.
16 For we did not follow cleverly devised stories when we told you about the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ in power, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty. 17 He received honor and glory from God the Father when the voice came to him from the Majestic Glory, saying, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.” 18 We ourselves heard this voice that came from heaven when we were with him on the sacred mountain.
19 We also have the prophetic message as something completely reliable, and you will do well to pay attention to it, as to a light shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts. 20 Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet’s own interpretation of things. 21 For prophecy never had its origin in the human will, but prophets, though human, spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.
This is the link to the commentary I enjoy.

Fables translates the ancient Greek word mythos. Some people think the Gospel and the Biblical record are just ancient myths. They may admire their power as myths, but Peter rightly insisted that his message was no myth. It was history, seen by eyewitnesses.
We can reliably reconstruct historical events from the testimony of eyewitnesses, who must be checked for truthfulness. The apostles and writers of the New Testament have been checked for centuries and have been found truthful.
This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased: At the transfiguration the Father spoke from heaven to declare His approval of and joy in God the Son. As Peter wrote this, we sense the words were still ringing in his ears because at the transfiguration he made the mistake of making Jesus equal with Moses and Elijah, who appeared along with Him.
Prophecy never came by the will of man: It is wrong and invalid to twist prophecy to our own personal meaning, because prophecy does not come from man but from God. It does come through holy men of God- but only as they are moved by the Holy Spirit.
I forgot that God spoke at the Transfiguration. I forgot the Peter saw Jesus, Moses, and Elijah all together, and heard the voice of God! When these verses talked about God declaring Jesus to be His Son... I thought about the Baptism. I forgot the second time was when Jesus was transfigured and had a glowing conversation with Moses and Elijah.

Peter, shame on you! How in the world could you ever say you don't know the man whom you saw glow? God told you Jesus is the Son of God! God Himself told you! How in the world could you say you don't know the man who actually talked with Moses and Elijah... right before your eyes? You must have been terrified of being put to death for lopping off the ear! That's the only reason I can think that you would deny knowing Jesus.

And they call Peter a saint! He's only a shivering human.

I guess being around excellence becomes normal. Maybe Pete thought it was no big deal that Jesus met with two men who passed away centuries and centuries before. Maybe Peter was so used to Jesus' Miracles that he just figures he should be pitching a tent instead of watching the transfiguration. Or maybe he should just preserve his energy, take a nap before pitching the tent for the boss's visitors.

Still, Peter actually heard God say Jesus is His Son!

Why was Peter at the Transfiguration? Didn't Jesus know Peter was a liar and a coward? Sure, He knew Peter would shrivel up the night Jesus was arrested. Because it's Jesus, it's a lesson for Peter. If Peter could lie about Jesus, and still be accepted back.... What about me? If Peter could deny knowing Jesus... What about me?

So, you're not a saint like Peter. So, you've denied being a Christian more than once, even though you really know in your heart that all those people can't all be wrong. So, you've denied being a Christian because it's easier to do business and live life without letting "religion" get in the way. Wait... maybe Peter denied Jesus because he was just an average human, just like you and me, and he was afraid. Peter was a liar, so it's not a stretch to think Peter even lied to himself about actually hearing the voice of God. Peter must have lied to himself, saying it wasn't real.

And they call Peter a saint! He's only a shivery human.

When the commentator dies...
And ascends to Heaven....
And is standing outside the Pearly Gates...
They need to remember....
It isn't GOD that grants them entry into Heaven...
It isn't Jesus that grants them entry into Heaven....
It's the shivery human, turned Saint who stands eternally as the Gatekeeper...

And HE says whether you're allowed in or not....

And don't be surprised if his fallible human side dictates who he lets in...and who he denies entry
It's HIS responsibility to keep the riffraff & instigators out....

I'll see you at the gate....

Jesus has invited me to be His Sister.

I'll insist on asking the Bridegroom to affirm my invitation to the family.

Hopefully my wick will be properly trimmed. Matthew 25:1-13
