Yes, in order to use 3G/4G to connect (e.g. when a Wi-Fi connection isn't available), you'll have to buy service through someone (e.g. Verizon or AT&T). You'll also have to have a tablet, or a version of a tablet, that has 3G/4G capability - not all of them do. I would note though that, for the most part, purchasing 3G/4G data service for tablets doesn't work the same way that it does with smartphones. You can buy the service for a month at a time whenever you may need or want it, rather than having to agree to a contract to buy it for, e.g., 2 years. That's because most tablet sales aren't subsidized by a carrier like most smartphone sales are, so the carrier doesn't need to lock you into a contract to recoup the cost of the subsidy. So, if you usually have Wi-Fi available, you might be able to get away with not buying 3G/4G data service except during months when you do need it (e.g., if you were going on vacation somewhere).

And, yes, you can use a Wi-Fi connection to do most anything you would otherwise use a 3G/4G connection to do, so long as you have Wi-Fi available. A Wi-Fi connection is probably preferable in most instances and for a number of reasons, e.g., it's usually going to be faster and you don't have to worry about how much data you're uploading or downloading (i.e. for those that don't have unlimited data plans).

Yes.

I think you'll find there are lots of addictive little games like Angry Birds available, even if it turns out that that one in particular doesn't strike your fancy. And, many of them are free.

You'll love it! I have a smart phone (droid) and use my 3G since i have a phone. But you can do anything on your WiFi that you could do on 3G. There are a ton of free apps like angry birds, sudoku, etc. that you can d/l and try and if you don't like it, you're not out of anything. Try the free app before paying for the ones that cost, just to see if it's worth it. Mostly, you'll just not have the ads that are showing in the free apps. You'll like Angry birds, and Angry Birds Rio too. Have fun!
