Can someone tell me exactly what they are for?

They won't come pick up strays on weekends.

Half the time you can't get them to come out on a week day.

By the time they do get there, the nuisance animal is long gone.

Anyone?

For barking dogs they bring you a paper though so you can write down each time there is a disturbance. Then you can give that paper back to them.

From what I've seen. To sit around and drink coffee and eat until their butt is too fat to fit in the van seat and get paid.

The 5 times my dog had been attacked in my yard they graciously brought me a paper to fill out and told me to keep an eye out for the attacking dogs. I thought this was very nice of them.:sarcasm:

I love her wild,wild hair
They came to my farm within five minutes when I called to tell them two pit bulls were attacking my horses. I was very grateful they took those bullies away.

Calvert County Animal Control provides assistance to citizens with domestic animals. The Calvert County Animal Ordinance addresses all regulations set forth in regard to animals, a copy may be obtained from Animal Control. Calvert County has a leash law for dogs, meaning if a dog is off the owner's property it must be on a leash; and a control law for cats, meaning if a cat is off the owner's property it must be under a person's control. All dogs and cats must possess an animal license, this must be purchased annually. Licenses are sold at Calvert Animal Hospital, Chesapeake Animal Hospital, Prince Frederick Animal Hospital, Calvert County Courthouse, Solomons Veterinary Clinic, and Tri County Animal Shelter. All animals must possess a current rabies inoculation. Whether owned or stray, any animal that breaks the skin of a person or other animal must be reported to Animal Control and be quarantined for 10 days, regardless of rabies inoculation. One can reach Animal Control through the Sheriff's Office at 410-535-2800 or (301) 855-1194. A Lost and Found Report is kept by the Tri County Animal Shelter, their hours are Monday through Saturday 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and Sundays 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. They may be contacted at 1-800-903-1992.

Four years ago when I had two dogs my neighbor would call on me every single day and claim my dogs were running loose in her yard or I was chasing my dog thru her yard. They did get loose once when two other dogs that are always loose in the neighborhood were in our drive way and they chased them off and I have no problem admitting that. We were fined and I paid the fines although I feel I should not have because animal control did nothing but get called out. They came every day and treated me like I was lying to them but because my dogs were inside my house they could not do anything about it. This continued on for about two months until they told me if they got called out again they were taking me to court and seeking custody of my dogs and they would have to be euthanized. I did what I thought was best for my dogs and rehomed them through SMAWL. The neighbor continued to call every day for two weeks after I no longer had my dogs. I showed the AC the paperwork from SMAWL 4 times before they stoped coming back.

Well now I have a neighbor with 3 dogs that do nothing but bark to the point where I can not even go in my yard. They hang over our fence trying to bite at me and my kids. I called and all they did was give me a paper to fill out. The only time they actually did anything to benefit me was when they broke our fence down and came into our yard. They came and removed the dogs from my yard but not until one of them bit my daughter as I was taking them out to catch the bus. Then to top it off my other neighbors dog got loose while they were at my house and this dog was nothing but skin and bones. He did not take the dog with him because he was out of room then had the nerve to tell the neighbors I was the one calling when it was supposed to be annonymous.

I have seen them twice lately, we have a new dog and they claim they are getting reports that I do not feed my dog and he is underweight. My dog weighs 175 lbs, He deffinitely did not get that big from not eating. I cant wait to see how much trouble we get out of them now.

I pretty much know most of them. They get a lot of calls for strays and dog bites, etc. They drop off a lot of traps and spend most of their days picking up the animals in the traps. They do a good job with their very, very limited staff. VERY limited staff. I think there are four to serve the entire County.

Fill out the papers and write the BOCC that they need more staff. Or, if you have a gun and a dog is attacking, there is no reason not to use it - a pellet gun is what I suggest. They also respond to injured animals on the sides of the road. Give them some credit or maybe request to spend a day with them ona ride-along. You'd be amazed at the work they do. If you have a scanner, I'm sure you hear the calls all day, every day. I'm talking about St. Mary's. Don't know about the other counties.

It sounds like the dogs aren't the problems, but the neighbors hate each other. Just my opinion. What kind of dog do you have that weighs 175 pounds?

Charles County is the same. Limited staff on patrol and they don't work on weekends, but during the week are out patrolling all day during normal working hours. Setting traps, picking up traps, calls for loose dogs, aggressive dogs, mistreated animals and the list goes on. Want to pay more taxes, request an AC rep be on duty 24/7. They do a great job with their limited capabilties.

I AM an enigma
For dogs that bark non-stop (especially at night, EVERY night) call the police for noise complaint. Worked for me. No more barking of 4 different, very annoying yips and yelps at 2 am all coming from one yard.

TRUE STORY: ST. MARY'S COUNTY 1986

In the old neighborhood where I lived, we were having a problem with a rabid raccoon that would attack dogs on runs, go thru garbage, etc during the day. Called the Animal Control, saw them once, they set a trap.

Neighbor shot said raccoon in my back yard on a Sunday. I called AC. I was told to put the dead thing in my freezer until they could get out there on Monday. I was icked out and said it would not fit. The man told me to just cut the head off and put in freezer (told me THAT should fit). UUUMMMM..... I don't think so.

He told me that they did not get paid to do that sort of pick up on a Sunday. Look buddy, I don't get paid for it Mon-Sat!! And there was NO WAY IN HELL I was gonna stick a raccoon in my freezer, let alone cut the damn head off it!

Long story short, I called Maryland State Police and they came out and got the sucka.

Still creeps me out. :cds:

I have an American Mastiff, They are slightly smaller than the well known Old English Mastiff but he is perfect size for his breed.

sm8 don't worry I get the same thing from some of the locals here where I live. They say to me you starve your dog (she a stbernard) and I don't starve her shes just on the small side because she was the runt of the litter. She weighs 90lbs (the vet said that was a good weight for her and not to worry about what others say) the vet said if i had her gain too much more weight (shes 2) that she would end up with hip/leg problems.

I have had animal control out here a few times for feral cats that were mean and went after me and the dog. They came out and set a trap (they caught 2). the animal warden that lives near me came out and checked the trap every am before he headed up the road to start his day which i thought was very nice of him to do instead having me call every am that there was a cat in the trap. I only saw one of the cats and that was because it was caught after hours and I left a message on the animal wardens phone and he came the next am at 645 and pick it up. We also have had a stray pitbull hanging around here and one day it wouldn't let me out of the store so i called the ac warden that I have a number for and he saved the day again. He has a tough job.

LOL my favorite part of when my neighbors dogs were in my fenced in yard and would not allow me out of my house AC asked me if I really "needed" to leave and go somewhere. I do know St. Marys has changed the laws slightly on animal regulations but I know a man who several years back was prosecuted for shooting someone elses dog on his property when it came after his grandchild. He was found guilty and had to pay restitution and lost his right to have guns in his house. Their claim was the dog was friendly, had never bitten and was trying to play with the grandchild.

FYI: IF it was rabid, freezing it would have made testing impossible.
