Someone at my work was telling me about a former Marine (Anita Jackson) who used to work in the National Capital Region and supposedly back in 2000/2001 timeframe killed someone in St Mary's County over some racial harrassment or something.

I was wondering if anyone remembers it or can help dig up an archived news article.

Thanks.

I'm finding a million and one Anita Jacksons in Maryland. About 100 of which were Marines. None of which murdered anybody that I can find. Do you have a ranks? SSN? Maiden name?

Raley, reading from a police report, said [Paula Hoopes] was taking revenge on the neighbor, Steve Bowles, who she thought was responsible for vandalism at [Anita L. Jackson]'s mother's house nearby.

Jackson was also at Bowles's house that night, asking him to stop the alleged vandalism. Then, when she and Bowles heard glass shatter, she believed the real vandal was outside, Raley said. She got a shotgun from her mother's house and went out to the field, where she found Bowles pummeling Hoopes's friend, Jane Woods, Raley said. Then, Jackson saw a dark figure bolt toward Bowles and she fired one shot, Raley said.

First-degree assault, [Theodore Weiner] reasoned, would likely result in a sentence of five to 10 years under Maryland's sentencing guidelines for Jackson, an ex-Marine who once served at the White House and has no prior criminal record. Raley also could have ignored the guidelines and given Jackson up to 25 years.

Thanks for your help though!

Anita Jackson was sentenced in July of 2003 to 10 years in Jessup for 1st degree assault in the DEATH of Paula Hoopes. Eligible for parole in half time served...believe she's been released.
