annoying telemarketers

Does Maryland have a 'no call' number to be put on a list so telemarketers won't call your number. We had one in Missouri and if you register with it, your number won't get called. I sure could use this out here.

I don't think it's just for Maryland, but try sending a letter to...

Telephone Preference Service
c/o Direct Marketing Association
PO Box 9014
Farmingdale, NY 11735-9014

Include something like this in the body...

Dear Sirs,

Please "activate the telephone preference service" and remove "ALL"
forms of my name, address, and TELEPHONE number from national
advertising telephone lists as soon as possible.

List all possible forms of your name.

There's also one for junk mail...

Mail Preference Service
c/o Direct Marketing Association
PO Box 9008
Farmingdale, NY 11735-9008

...just change "telephone" to "mail" in the body of the letter.

Putting your name on that list won't help much. The restrictions do not apply to any charitable organization and the word charitable covers a big area. Even the new legislation they're dreamnig up now still exempts charities.
