The post about the gas beggars reminds me.. I'm home in the front yard.. an old tan ford smaller SUV goes by, sounds like it has a rod knock or something.. then comes to a stop in the street next to the neighbors.. I see the guy get out and starts walking to the nearby park where they have a huge shed with equiptment but it's a good 1/4 mile away.. and i happen to have a 28 gallon gas can with gas in it on the back of my pickup truck..
Guy looks like a crackhead but i give him the benefit of the doubt and offer his some gas.. he says I can stop with his 2 gallon half full but i go ahead and fill it up. He's grateful and says he'll be back through with some gas for me or something and i tell him not to worry about it. I go ahead and use the rest of my gas and fill up my truck after he left.
A few days go by.. and a commercial wrapped work truck with rims pulls over on the turn lane in front of my house and stops.. same guy comes over and says he just run out of gas.. asking if i had any.... acting like a stranger like i wouldn't recognize him.. I told him I had some gas but i used it all up (which was true of course) and then he goes to the side door of the truckbody and grabs a can of gas and says he found some.. Oh how convenient.
Sure i'll help out my fellow man in need if it looks legit like a fellow down on his luck (especially if he's a road hazard).. But an expensive commercial truck with expensive rims? I'm guessing he was trying to pocket the gas money the truck owner gave him to get gas, thinking he'd get gas from me. I'll help people out who look legit but otherwise your failure to plan doesn't constitute my emergency. Especially when I can see the vehicle you're driving, the owner must have money. GTFOH.
it's been a few months and he hasnt' been back.. Almost makes me regret a little that I helped him the first time.
