TPD
the poor dad
TPD vs Government.....Again! And I'm right....AGAIN! But I still lose!
Today my daughter calls to let me know that the State Highway crew is taking down the political signs an a piece of commercial property we own in Ridge. Wants to know if I can get up there to find out what's going on - she can't get away from the store at the moment. I tell her it will take me about 10-15 minutes. I finally leave the farm to head north to inspect. I see the state highway truck going south so I know I'm too late. I get to the property at the intersection of Rt 5/Rt 235 and see all of the political signs have been removed but the sign for the American Legion Bull Roast next weekend is still there. WTF!
We just bought this property in January. I called 2 or 3 people at SHA soon after purchasing the property to ask questions about the state right of way, the billboard on the property, and getting a temporary access from Rt 5. No one could answer my questions and kept giving me another name and number. No one ever got back to me and I got busy so never followed up. In the mean time, we had a survey done and knew the property boundaries. As election season approached, we put a plan in place for candidates to place their signs on the property. If you called and asked us real nicely, we told you that you could put your sign up, but you had to put it on the red line that we marked, which was well within our boundaries and we thought out of the state right of way.
So back to today - I immediately call the Loveville SHA office and express my concern with the missing signs to the woman who answers. She states she will put in a work order to have someone get in touch with me. Within 15 minutes I get a call from another SHA employee who says he can meet me at the property in 30 minutes. I meet him there with an attitude and start asking the questions. Well it boils down to if someone calls to complain about signage the SHA comes out and removes them if they are in the right of way. Thing is - these signs were NOT in the right of way. I had them get the tape measure out. We were 3-5 feet out of the easement! They offered to give the signs back to me, but they don't put them up. I didn't get all of the signs back, but didn't realize this until after they were gone. AND they didn't give all of the posts back that the signs were on!
What really pisses me off is that I was right, SHA was wrong, but there are no repercussions for any government agency when they are wrong. Don't even get a "sorry we messed up"! I have wasted 2 hours of my day over this BS that should have never happened if SHA did their job properly and knew where the right of way is!!!!
YouTube video to follow in the next 24 hours.
